    Mostly the pen tool, but usually a combination of a few methods, as every image is different. Each method has it's advantages and disadvantages, it's up to you when you look at an image, to make a judgement call on which will be best.

    You could have kept your finger on Alt, and clicked in the middle of the two layers with the circle and the line, then repeat for the other two lines.

    I use the same method as Tom, but I convert to indexed colour, so I can choose 8 bit, but only when it isn't just a black outline of a key.

    You should carry on, but some people learn in different ways, so giving something they can physically play with and dissect may be just as helpful. I learned how to use smart objects by playing with templates just like this.

    I wish I had too much time, I have insomnia! I have to go to work in 2 and a half hours. :cry: It's just a case of using the clone stamp tool and the healing brush tool, and having a lot of patience. Adding new shadows to match existing ones and replicating highlights.

    I have created a template for this 'Effect'. All you have to do is load it into Photoshop, double click the thumbnail on the 'Pic 1' layer and it will open up in a new preview window.     The seats are in a different position, and so are your legs. The cello can be matched up, but everything else is out, as well as the lighting. Could you not just retake the picture? Some people put bits of take on the floor to help with continuity.
