TeXture Discussion

That's looking really nice. [honesty]

I guessed you had used the same strip for the stripes in your previous image - and it looks just that, the same piece rotated and put at the edges.

If you created a layer(s) with your stripes the same size as the image, a layer mask or select/delete would give the 'window' in the middle but with the stripes 'lining up'.

This is to quickly illustrate my meaning, I think your image has better detail

Toxin, now I understand. I imagined already that you mean that, but the word "roughness" made me confused. And you are right, it would look very much better. Now I only have to try to make this effect again, since me stupid one reduced everything to the background layer and I don't know anymore, how I did it [doh] Typical newbie mistake I guess, grrr.
Ok, one last pic, the same as above but with an additional rusty bump map, very easy made with clouds, noise and different brownish colors.

Thank you for all your help, really appreciated :righton:

Nice progression Hanarky! :righton:

As for the mistake of merging all layers into a background, think of it this way.... this kind of exhuberance reinforces the learning experience when we are forced to go back and 'reproduce' our work! ;)

[shhh] Can you tell that I'm talking from experience... ha!ha!

:\

Keep up the good work! :)

so very true....

Actually I learn most from my mistakes. They stick in my memory and make me remind them, whenever I try something new. Tuts, that I have done, that went smooth alone, I forget the techniques again after a few days of not using them. So though being annoyed by them, mistakes tend to be very good friends [shhh]

Then I will have to stick with a few topics to learn them toroughfully, before moving on to others. Here in this forum is so much information, even in threads I only read and I of course have to try any of them and then I lose overview. Haha, human brain is limited, least mine :D

Just to round things off - a couple of pipes and some cables, use the stroked path method that so many interface design tutorials cover.

These details are kept on separate layers, a set of variation textures is really quick to make...

remember that the path tool can be manipulated by holdong Shift, CTRL & ALT to get the two 'arms to go different directions or at 45degrees etc.

Very last thing:

enjoy :D

ToXin thanks so much for the link. It is great tutorial for useing the healing brush to make texture.
:righton:

I need a new PC before I can upgrade from my PS5 (there are other things on the shopping listas well), although I have read about and seen a tutorial video on the 'healing brush / patch tool' - all I can say is I'm envious of texture artists with the luxury of that tool!

I have read the tut and it looks great. I will try it, when I am finished with my current project. Thanks a lot :)
