Curious Labs sold Poser (=went broke) to e-frontier, a japanese company that also makes Shade.

DAZ studio is not (yet) made public. They now seem to turn to their Platinum members first...

an essential point amidst all the ooh's and aah's, quoting Nick Alamanos:

As far as what e-frontier bought.. well I doubt they bought Poser... for the code.. they wanted the user base. Coming from a programming background.. it make's no sense to even try to take poser from 5 to 6 using the same code base. It's buggy and it's old code.. I really don't think you can salvage anything. What would make sense is to take their shade package.. and give it the ability to read and save pz3 files; and to pose characters. then offer this new package to existing p5 users as an upgrade.. Well atleast that's what i hope they do.. because if they think they can touch the orginal 8 year old code and add to it.. forget.. it's probably spagetti code at the moment. So many hands have touched it that it would have to be re-written.

The app E-frontier makes is called Shade. It's a 3D app, but at the moment, they are limited to the Japanese market. Poser's community is huge (most thanks for that goes to DAZ with their Vickies and Michaels and dragons and...) and to Renderosity. If they get this community, they have a good start to bring their app into a worldwide position. If they can "merge" Poser's basic functionality in it, they may have a winner. Clever, very clever...


As for DAZ Studio: we wait, and hope. As personally, I don't like Poser5 at all. Neither the interface, nor its technical options.

What's more: we now can forget about plugins for Cinema, LW etc I suppose...

Thanks a lot, and...glad you're back!

P5 is now up and running smoothly...I set V3 as default and then deleted everything from the runtime except my acquisitionand Don and Judy hires.

Must say though that that material room is quite complicated.if you have Cinema, or can grab a free copy of r6 from a mag, then export from Poser as wavefront obj after posing and set under preferences in C4D obj input to sclae 300 (appr.). Then merge with a scene (even an empty one) and welcome in paradise!

Better not forget that it is still a very early alpha, so they aren't even at the beta level where bugs are eliminated...

At this moment, it's even slower than P5, but it does look promising.

It is *not* yet (!,) the Poser killer. Far from that...


BTW: SP4 for Poser5 will be out quite soon now...let's hope they included export in .c4d format...as was promised...

Erik you are probably right but.........Poser is a bit expensive

for a humble mom .... ;\ And in Poser 3 i'll get in trouble with loading some of the DAZ figures....

Erik, I followed a long and winding path looking for info on HDRI's and discovered that there is a plug-in pack for Terragen which will allow the conversion of Terragen generated scenery into HDRI format.

Wouldn't it have been nice if the same happened with Bryce 5 before Corel bellied-up?

.. and it's not just because I have Bryce and don't have TG.
I think I have tracked down the dozen or so HD's that are available for free download.
