Favorite Summer Pictures

This summer I'm doing a job which is a twelve minute walk from home, slightly downhill. Great commute. As I walk along this rural road each day, I've been amazed by a little fern for which I've developed a great affection. It has emerged through 3 inches of tar and gravel and is flourishing about a foot from the edge of the road. Against all odds...

WOW Welles -I had no idea ferns were so persistant! Great Photo. The shadow adds the sun!

Here in my yard, the garden ferns require pampering. I always thought of them as delicate.

Raven in the misty morning....

Great ones everybody! :righton:

:D The other foggy morning here I heard the quorking and chattering conversations of ravens outside -- I went outdoors hoping to catch a glimpse of these very elusive birds and spotted one of them far off across the valley on the top of a very tall dead tree. I knew he wouldn't be there long so I just took a quick snapshot of him with my 12X zoom on the Sony H1. The first pic below shows the scale right out of the camera. The second one I did what I could to enlarge the raven portion so you could see it a bit better. He/she had a bit of the purplish/greenish sheen but also the head feathers were a bit drab so I think it may have been a young one. He stayed put only for this one shot and flew off and around then coming back was joined by 3 others and they flew off into the misty morning.

The shots aren't great ones, but it was still neat for me to see them and catch one.

nice Raven.

I was out celebrating my bday last night and thought at dusk as a red tailed hawk flew overhead with a meal, how I wished I'd had a camera with me at that moment.

I should drive up the river and "shoot" some Bald Eagles, as we've got lots around here.

:D Thanks Ric! Happy B-day!!! :} Yeah, that would be really cool to get shots of hawks or eagles -- hope ya give it a try!!! :righton: B7

PS -- love the animated lion avatar!!! :bustagut:

Raven: Great job! I had a couple of 'em living in a tree in my backyard a couple of summers ago, noisy birds and very territorial" they chase the squirrels away from there nest". Or where they crows? [confused]

RICIB: Happy belated B'day, us leo's must stick together (7/27) 8}

Maya - I can't even imagine you saying "they aren't great photos" --they really are wonderful.

I'm like most people, a photo grabs me in an emotional way or it doesn't - And these grab, with that vast misty background and the mysterious blue forest, really have drama. Harks of medieval times or should I say Hawks of ...

Aside #1: Everytime I hear Medieval times, I think of Mid-evil and I wonder if there were was ever a start-evil and end-evil time.

Aside #1: Very athletic of you to rustle-up your camera in a big hurry, I always trip on something along the way.

Ahaaa Summer....There's a lot of action on the patio this summer. When the blooming began, I became very attached to photographing anything that moved! This was a lucky find.

Joy,

The frame you used took a fine image and made it almost surrealistic. It's a wonderful example of using a frame tailored to a specific image!

:} :} :} :}

Very creative, Joy. I love that splash of color in the otherwise green image. Brings you eye right to the butterfly. Kudos

to all -- very nice pictures!! :righton:

I have to say that my favorite is the picture of the two boats -- completely WOW!! [stuned] [stuned] :righton: :righton:

Thanks Welles, Lee, Peeking rabbit, Raven and Mflintjer -- I appreciate your kind and generous comments. ;\

Shooting the butterfly was so very exciting but when I DL the picture it just didn't have the zing..... 8D

I became very unhappy.... :(|

Then the light went on: "F R A M E IT!" ... *pondering* might add some zing -- bring back the old feelings. I used Extensis Ice cubes It didn't entire recapture the thrill for me but it did add enough charm to post here.

\:] You already figured out it was a "rescue" right? :D

(WOW! A new board look! Funny what happens while I'm away for a few days)

While I was gone on a mini-vacation I snapped a few pics of Niagra Falls.

I felt like I'd been there before, only I hadn't even come close to being there. I have freaky dreams.

Anyway, this is my favorite of the shots I took, or close to it anyway. Taken from the Canadian side, looking back at Horseshoe Falls.

All I can say is BEAUTIFUL!

Wow this new format is very strange to navigate. It will take some time for me to become familiar with it.

Ricib
really great shot! I've see photos? from the canadain side but never like this - the way you show the permanent haze above the falling water is very very interesting.? Really paints a picture of how dramatic the falls really is.? I"ve seen it once in person, I remember being amazed by the roar it made too.? Great photo!= a real treasure
