I would go for a duplicate layer then do the fill opacity to 0% and applying drop shadow then add a motion blur.

You can try the custom brush to make the shadows like this.
Just select the whole design, invert the selection, go to Quick Mask mode and Image->Define Brush Preset...

Now make Black Solid Color layer under design layer, add a black mask to it, choose Brush tool with your preset, set Spacing to 1, Fade opacity to something like 15, Foreground Color to White. Select the mask in the Layer s panel, Overlay brush contour over design, click, offset the brush down and to the left, Shift click.

You can use Levels on the mask to finetune the shadows.

STRWD, what an amazing trick! Kinda motion trail imitating a shadow.

The other way is using blends in Illustrator. But your trick is better.

Yeah, Im just always a bit reluctant to suggesting the solutions outside the Photoshop in this forum. After all, not many users have the whole suit of Adobe products:sad: May be Im just being all wrong...

Myself, I use many products at the same time in my work. Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects are my favorite ones:)

indeed mate but they are easily tweak-able in plugin's settings , that's why I posted the entire screenshot !

i tried using motion blur and erased some part of it, and adjust the bevel highlights and shadows angle...Untitled-1.jpg

A drop shadow with motion blur is a good start, but the original shadow has a gradient to it that is difficult to reproduce. And I think the only way to get those sharp outer edges on the shadows is to erase away the shadow.

Motion blur is just ugly. And the gradient is easily reproduced using Brush tool or, as raikkonen said, with Illustator's Blend tool.

P.S. Just another way is making everything in 3D. This is possible, but PS really sucks at making soft shadows(at least CS5, that Im using), they come out grainy and ugly:frown: But you can use Repoussé with Shear option and use Black to White gradient for Extrusion texture Opacity map. This gives pretty good results and simulates the shadows perfectly:cheesygrin:
