Yup, the 1st image is in pretty grim shape. Automated methods probably aren't going to be very satisfactory to you, so you are likely going to have to supplement them with time-consuming manual methods such as cloning and smudging (mentioned above), as well as essentially repainting a good bit of the skin.
Retouching old photos is a skill that takes quite a bit of practice to get right, so you may or may not want to take on this task yourself.
With so many images involved, you may have a hard time finding someone (a) competent to do the work and (b) willing to do it gratis. Another possibility is that there is a group of individuals who, in special cases (eg, disaster recovery) do such work for free. They may be willing to take on this job. I'll try to find you a link to them.
