Hello. I'm new to PhotoShop or creating anything with any advanced picture editing software (I have CS5). I needed some help. So, I'm not very familiar with the lingo with PS (we'll call that PhotoShop), I need someone who can explain this to the biggest newbie to this program. What looks so easy to others always ends up being so hard to me because I do something wrong. Anyways! Here is my problem:

I don't believe this is a bug of any sort, just my ignorance. Please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong section (actually, feel 100% free to move this or enlighten me as to where this is to go in its proper section). I can't seem to draw in the box. Yes, so, the white and grey pixelated box you start with via the 'New' option (I think most people know what I'm talking about). If there is something I'm supposed to do to get started at all that I'm missing, read on first before posting (please). If anyone can help me out with my questions I may have further, here is my Skype:

bataviadodrill

If you don't have that, I as well have MSN!

bataviaa(at)hotmail(dot)com

Thank you!

I also meant to add that with me not being very familiar to the lingo, please go easy and explain this is the most simple way (I don't know how to edit my previous post; if needed, merge it if necessary).

Hello,
editing is easy, you should see pencil with "Edit Post" below your post.
Now can you describe a bit better what your problem is ? You have just a new document ? Plain background and want to do a box on it ? Like this ?

BTW could you, please, change your avatar to something less aggressive to eyes ?

Yes. A new document. I can't seem to do anything with it. I don't know if there's something I'm supposed to do to be able to draw (or anything else of course). Oh, and, I hadn't realized it was a GIF. Sorry! Changed.

Clearly doesn't work :(

Still not seeing this Edit option; I'll ask a forum moderator/admin.

There is a grey stripe below each YOUR post, there is a small symbol of pencil and "Edit Post", where below other's post you see "Thanks" and "Reply", "Reply With Quote". Can you see those ?

Can you see the tall narrow box on the left of document on my picture ? It is a Tool box window, Photoshop works with whichever of them you pick. On my picture there is Paint bucket tool, it spills colour, you should try for example Brush tool, it is two items higher. Try and let us know.

No; still not seeing that.

What browser do you use, don't you have something very old ? I think it does not matter that much. You can post printscreen of at least two posts, first of them has to be yours.

Great, you have Tools bar at the most left, just you have it organised into a single line. Pick the eighth from top and start to draw.

//Screenshots removed; it magically works now?

It doesn't seem to be working. I select it, and start to draw over it, and nothing appears?

///Screenshots still here? I guess?

You really do not have any Edit there, I do not know why, but show this picture to Admins, they may know.

It does not draw anything because you are in the Mask, not in the painting window. Close it and create a new one from File->New, then try again. And open the panel where Layers is written.

The black square is where your picture resides, following two whites are masks, do not bother with them right now, you can even drag and drop them to the trash bin right down in Layers window.
