Two very easy questions (grid, masks)

I think both will have a simple answer.

1) Somehow I turned on a setting that shows a grid automatically whenever I open an image. This is driving me batty. How can I turn it off?

2) If you are working with a mask, is there any way to turn it off/hide it?

1) i don't think that there's asingle option to enable the grids as default any time u open an image, the only thing that comes to mind right now is to disable the, show grids or " Crtl + ' " PC or " Cmd + ' " MAC or "MENU>VIEW>SHOW>GRID", i could be wrong dough.

2) yeah you can turn off, hide it "disable" or delete layer masks on the layers palette, when layer mask active right click on it to see available commands for layer masks or go to MENU>LAYER>LAYER MASK

Well, there IS a way to enable a grid upon opening an image, because it happens to me every time! I need to figure out how to make it stop!

If Grid is enabled and Extras is enabled the grid will be there every time you open an image.
If you turn of Grid (Ctrl+') or turn of Extras (Ctrl+H).

Are you saying you turn Grid off and it turns back on when you open a new image?

You can right click on a mask and click on Disable Layer Mask

Shift click the layer mask to turn it on and off. Ctrl+' to turn the grid on and off.

Try resetting the preferences file.

Start Photoshop while holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift (Windows)
or Command+Option+Shift (Mac OS X).

Then, click Yes to the message, "Delete the Adobe Photoshop Settings file?"

When that file gets corrupted all kinds of screwy things can happen.
I'm glad it fixed the problem.
