So I'm learning to do gif's...

That's one way that is if you've created the images separately like you mentioned.

Another is to do it directly while doing the image in PS. Like my example .... Type text on Separate layers (A B C ) .... In animation/Frames create frame , in layer palette click the eye icon to make A layer contents visible in frame (click out the other eyes of other layers.....) Create new Frame , click out A layer and make B visible... repeat for frame C. to adjust the timing of each frame, click on the time indicator (.05 secs in my image) and adjust. To check the animation, click on the PLAY (>) button. To stop, hit the stop button, what else... LOL

When done, In the save options, choose Save Optimized As ....

Dang... lol.. that's PS7's Image Ready options.

Not sure what the save option in CS6 is.
