Shortcuts database:does it interesting to anybody except me?

I am just upload the new (third) iteration of PSKbd. [shhh] More shortcuts added and minor bugs fixed. Links:

Currently I check database against some well-known documents and faced some problems. For example, 'Photoshop 6 Keyboard Shortcuts.pdf' mentioned number of shortcuts that I either can't get working (like shift+< , shift+> , alt+shift+A , etc...) or can't understand (like ctrl+.) So adding the rest of shortcuts probable will consume some notiable time.

Does anybody know that shortcut ctrl+alt+shift+P is actually doing? It described as "Print One (Use Current Settings)", but I can't figure out it's purpose. [confused]

100xcd, what you've posted is what the shortcut does. Print, One Copy at current settings. So, if you want to see how an image looks at the settings you currently have on your printer (landscape, center horozontally but not vertically, draft color as an example), that is how it will print. If you want to make changes, you then print "the old fashioned way".

By the way, you have Paint BUCKET misspelled as Paint Backet. You might want to correct that.

Great 100xcd! :righton: Ah yes, download speed has indeed improved! ;)

Thanks for comments. I fix a 'bAcket' word. And mystically, I got Print One shortcut working now. It is kind of strange because I almost shure that early it show me the "Page Setup" dialog (instead of printing the picture immediately).

Now I am in trouble with 3 type-mode shortcuts: ctrl+H ('Show/Hide Type'), alt+ctrl+shift+T ('toggle single/every-line composer) and ctrl+up/down ("prev/next paragraph"). I don't have any ideas that the first two means. Third shortcut look simple but I can't get it working. How it supposed to works?

The first one, Ctrl+'H' is mis-labeled. It doesn't show/hide type, it shows/hides the type highlighting that indicates when a range of type has been selected.

The second and third shortcuts actually go together, and are only relevant when you have created a text box in the type layer by clicking and dragging out a rectangle before entering type, which enables Photoshop to automatically wrap text into multi-line paragraphs. At that point, the line-by-line editing and previous/next paragraph should become obvious.

Hope this helps!

Vladimir, I believe that shortcut is no longer functional. The last version of Photoshop that had that type of help was 5.5; at least in version 7 (and I believe also in version 6), the tool help is displayed at the bottom of the screen in the status bar, which can be turned on/off from the Window command in the upper menu bar.

Thanks, madster. You are true PS guru :D

I know a number of another non-working shortcuts but I think it is the same story - they either too old or too new (PSKbd consists PS v6 shortcuts). BTW I am release the fourth preview. Now I add all shortcuts that I know and does verify (about 330). So you can reports a missing shortcuts.

Why not have a table that says whether it is a PS6 or PS7 shortcut, or both?? Most are the same but there are some discrepancies. Just an idea.

That is simple. I verify all shortcuts before adding them in database. I don't have PS-7 to verify v7-specific shortcuts.

I think that someone posted a link to a PS7 shortcuts list, awhile back.

Anyone remember where that is? Gauss, you know?

Okay, I understand that having PS7 shortcuts is a "critical" feature even for the first version. I don't want to add "version switch" now, so I will update database to PS7 shortcuts and temporary disable the PS6-specific one. Or maybe remove them? How many peoples (%) use the "older" versions of Photoshop? If nobody use them, then I can just follow the latest version...

Alistair, PSKbd is a separate application. Just download and you will see it :)

Well, yet another bunch of questions just before I bring the next version.

1) I can't get shift + number (shift + 1, shift + 2...) (PS7) working. It supposed to change Flow opacity but they actually don't.

2) alt+shift+L - set treshold/normal blending mode. What tool have a "Threshold" blending mode? For me this combination always switches to normal mode.

3) ~ (Toggle Channel/Rubylith View)
I see the effect but don't like this explanation. Does anybody have a cleaner explain?

4) shift + return explained as "Apply Zoom & Keep Box Active".
IMHO a strange explanation. As I understand this combination apply (any) fields value to the image but don't switch focus. Once again, does anybode have a better explanation?

Hi Vladimir!

Again, I think some of the shortcuts have changed due to Adobe's PS engine change.

Shift + # 1-9 is no longer applicable, no matter what other sites say. Since the airbrush is now an offshoot of the regular brush, the flow is changed with just the numbers 1-9, Shift has no effect. By the same token, there seems to be no way to adjust the opacity by keyboard, just the flow...(?!?).

Will follow up with your other questions as I find a moment or two to check them out.

Regarding the SHIFT+NUMBER shortcuts... Look like a bug in Windows version of PS7. I read the adobe's forum - someone report that they are works fine on his Mac (PS 7.0.1/OS 9.2.2)

Well, I have an idea to add some illustration (at least for the most tricky shortcuts) in PSKbd. It will be html file with text and screenshots that launched then you press Enter while in shortcuts table. I hope it can be usefull for newbies and maybe for others too. What do you think about this idea? What shortcuts should be illustrated first? (my "favorites" is merging layers and transformations shortcuts). Which is the best method for indicating that particular shortcut have an illustration? I think about coloring the table but this can decrease readability... Another idea is add some photoshop-related sites in the table. They can have a "site" keyword attached. And the last idea is add some "internet searching". For example, pressing alt+Enter in "Howto: Add Layer Mask" row can fire google searching for "photoshop layer mask" string...
