One other thing I forgot to mention. I thought of this only a little while ago, and I think it makes a difference in the believability of your work, especially when your working on lower res photos. Hard square pixels= hard square brush.
I just feel that it helps to keep the pixelation equal on whatever area your working and keep things from looking too airbrushy and painted.
