Hello,

I've attached a .psd file that I created of text resembling green 'glass'. I'm happy with the result, however I'm seeking to have the background go to transparent while leaving the text (GREEN) and the edge effects in tact? Sort of new at this but really enjoy learning! Would be wonderful if someone can express the steps needed to achieve this action, if possible of course? Thanks in advance, JB

Hello and welcome to PSG

Just change the color of your original text to the green of the color fill layer and bring the fill to 100%. Turn off the color fill layer. Same difference without the green in the BG.

Text changed because I don't have the same font.

Thanks for the f-a-s-t replies!

@IamSam - you're instructions make great sense but I cannot seem to get the text only layer to take on a new color? When I turn off color fill layer I have the bevel/emboss etc 'ghost' of the text and when I turn off text I just get solid green. I have included a screenshot of my ps screen. Hope it's OK do this?

Yes, SMOk3, that is exactly what I'm trying to achieve. I'm sure IamSam's instructions should do it, but I got lost somewhere?

Really trying to understand how to do this on my own and maybe help somebody too?

Thanks for any tips? JB

You started the effect with a text layer that you created with the Type Tool. The text was set to a certain color. You removed the color by dropping the Fill to 0%

Select the text layer.
Select the Type Tool
Turn off the color fill layer
Return the fill to 100%

Your text will now look like this...

With the Type Tool selected, go to the top in the Tools options bar and click on the color selector.
The Color Picker will open up. Change the text color to the same color as the color fill layer.

That's incredible IamSam! It works and just shows that every little setting is there for a reason. I was overlooking....text 'fill'!

Cannot thank you enough :) All my best, JB
