Quick Question : ).

As a graphics designer, self employed with your own business.

How far do you all go in regards to using clip-art, vectors, photos etc on the internet to use as part of your client work. Obviously the clip-art etc would be free to use, and not took from google images etc.

It's got me wondering and I'm starting to feel bad for using the odd free clip are as part as my clients work, is this really allowed?

I would say read the terms of use as published on the site as a prerequisite to use . Different ones have various stipulations, use freely for all things you want, personal use only, no commercial use without permission etc. Obviously you don't want to use watermarked or things with copyright or trademarks. Stay away from sports logos and related as most are copyrighted and licensed. You might want to Google copyright and read the information also. This is a broad subject with a lot of different things to know, so be careful and hopefully you won't get sued.

Any more out there who use sources of pictures from the web, or do you all create fully from scratch every time?

If your employed as a Graphic Designer then I am sure 1 of the requirements is the ability to design Graphics and not end up using clip art as that would make everyone a Graphic Designer, (that said everyone is a Graphic Designer on the web these days regardless of the fact they have only studied at the university of Youtube).

using stock images is only really acceptable if they are stock images as content fillers.

Now if you are creating the clipart then that is a different story perfectly acceptable.

I tend to only really use small icons tbh with you, and use that as the base of my design and work on it from there.

At the end of the design, any work I have used that is royalty free is not even really noticeable in my work as I have made so many amendments to it.

You do realize, don't you, that "royalty-free" does not mean that you don't pay any money to use the object. It means that you pay only once. Look it up in Wikipedia.
