Putting on Text

Hello, I dj at a local night club and we started using music videos and we are also running adds etc on upcoming events and things that go on alll the time at the club.

I have put together everything and run it through my gig rig, both music videos and the adds. They have to be jpeg for the machine to use them

What I have done so far is buy vectors on line and then put text above or below the picture or over part of the picture so it reflects what is going on.

I had the owner send me the official logo of a bull riding group so I could make them a nice add that would reflect them and also inform people of what is coming up...when they are riding and what time the after party is that we will have for them.

Here is the deal, there is not enough room to write over anything on the pic but in photoshop cs5 I can't seem to figure out how I put a bigger blank behind it so I can write on it and let the logo banner be in the center.

The gig rig also has a ticker that scrolls along the bottom of the monoters all of the time when I am playing and so most of the time I put everything towards the top so its not covered by the ticker.

Thank You for any feedback,

evilstepdad

You can also use the crop tool and just pull the little boxes out to the size you want. Don't forget to fill the color of the canvas with the bucket tool any color you like.

Firts, thanks for the answers it helped a lot, so simple I feel like an idiot but when it comes to this I am so I don't feel bad lol.

The photo bucket deal is giving me fits though, can't get it to work. I finally found it with some searching but just can't get the colors to change on the image I am working on. it is a bit map ?? image. It is the text I really want but the club kind of did their own thing with their logo and it comes as this so when I want to stick it in to something it is going to be a pain until I get it where I can handle it.

Letters are black and the background on it is white, would like to make the letters red and background black or something else but can't change them.

I did what you said and got the back layer to go bigger and helped a lot and I can change the color on it but the colors on the image I put on are all on one layer and can't get them to change, was just going to try and fill with bucket but no luck yet.

Again, Thank You

Do the work in photoshop before you load into your bucket. Load the image then go to: Image>Mode Make sure you have RGB color checked and the image layer will then change from image to background. You should be able to edit your colors then and don't feel bad we all have to start somewhere.

Thank You for the color info, can do the background color for the pic but not the letters in it. They are black and I want them red on a black background but can not change them. Just have to keep diggin' don't really know what to do with it to change it.

Again, Thank You

Thanks for the input, well I don't know what I did but got them red but now when I get the rest of it black the whole thing is turning black. Starting from square one again. I did what Carrie56 put in his post when I did it and it did say foreground up above and when you dropped that down it did not say background. I did just get it done though but I don't know how lol.

The color boxes on the left side down at the bottom showed red and black when I changed the colors but would only let me do red, did the letters with it and then clicked on the black to do the background but it filled it as red also. It was also red and black showing in the two boxes up above on the right side and it didn't matter which one I chose it went on as red. I finally chose the front one again and put them both to black and the background is now black. It does not show as two colors in any of the info boxes but now just shows as black.

Sorry but will try to learn the right names for everything as I get through some of this.

Thanks to everyone for posting. I'm intrigued.. which part, me being so dumb on this or the colors in the info box? I say that with a smile by the way. Yes, I don't know what was going on but that is the way it was. Just opened it up but dosn't show the layers that I used now as it is locked, I guess that will be something to learn in the future is how to unlock if you can. Well I just opened the saved files up and the boxes were the right colors and it let me change colors with no problems but when I first changed them to the colors now it was not that way, had to be both one color.

Here is the one I had the problem with, well any would be a problem only been working with this program for about 3 days now off and on. Will be putting this in a lot of adds and stuff to be ran on the monitors in the club I dj at. It is a take off from the tribal font you can find online but this is what I have to work with as they emailed it to me in bmp. Changed this to jpeg as the gig rig uses jpeg when I am showing these. Thanks for the interest. The Zoo.jpg

If anyone is still looking at this thread I have another question. I would make it new on the forum but don't want to add a whole list of questions taking up time others with questions might need so will just try to get an answer in this thread.

The Zoo pic in the above post is one I need to get together as it will be involved a lot in the stuff I will need to make and show on screens and what I need to do is get it so that The Zoo shows and the background is somehow transparent so I can put it on top of whatever and you can see through it, sort of like putting text over a photo, you see the text but if it is a O you can see the pic in the middle of the O. Getting this to a file I can save and use over and over changing colors etc as needed is what I really need to get done. I tried the opacity putting this and text over a vector of a guy and the way the zoo is made and with everything attached to it you could see the difference with the zoo part and the text part.

Should I rasterize this before I try to do any of this and what does it take to do that? It did ask me but I didn't do it at the start and now thought that might be the way to go but a little lost right now.

Thanks for any replies

Its called rendering. That one is pretty easy to render since its black on white. I cropped the image so I had just text then I made converted the background into a layer. I used a magic eraser and just clicked on the white layer and saved the file as a png because png files show transparency. The first one is rendered for you so you can save it and use that. I just posted the second one to show you the render on a red background.

lol ... No offence intended .... lol.... I'lll re-phrase.... I'm curious as to what you want to do.... is it to add the text to an image like this?

To change the color, ..... There are so many ways to do things..... In this one, your original text image is a layer set at darken mode above the elephants background ..........

Yes that is exactly it. As you can see a couple of post above carrie56 made The Zoo into a png file and I have that now. Said he used a magic eraser to do it so I need to find that eraser and figure it out.

I did find one way to make it work by using the blending option but having it with the transparent background is the way to go and hopefully I can figure that out as it will be needed a lot when working with other pictures and files.

I am a little older but not that old..60..and not very computer savvy so it is kind of a grind but I am liking it more and more and I have to say your interest and replies along with the others has helped me a lot and hopefully nobody gets board with my questions. This is one that I will run on the monitors between music videos. Do you know about the magic erasure?lol Again, Thank You

Yes, I know the magic eraser.... But there are instances wherein using the eraser tends to leave a white outline around the object and at other times, the image becomes jagged. Look at your zoo text, doesn't it look jagged? You can smoothen it by feathering the edges.

Or in what I did, crop the Zoo image to a smaller size set it position and use the layer modes.

There are many ways of doing things.... What you choose to do depends on the image you are working with or what you plan to more for it...

I'll show you in a minute what I mean....

Now that is nice and that's where I hope to end up. I did a bevel and emboss on the blending tool but that was it and yes I did see the jagged edges. So if I get the file I would need to use the color control and delete the white and then go to blending and bevel and then color to have this smoother look?

Using the color range control ( MENU>SELECT>COLOR RANGE) you select the white. Since the image only has two colors, all white is selected and easy to delete leaving you with black. The jagginess will always be there most especially if you zoom up to it. But like I said using the eraser (normal, magic ) tends to leave a more jagged appearance.

If you feel there's a bit more jagginess than you want, then smoothen or feather the edges.

Here's another I did just now.... just the text on a layer with deleted white. Copied to new layer, set the layer behind the original text and added Gaussian Blur....

This is where I feel really stupid but where did you select the color range controls at? How were you able to select the white and what did you do to delete the white? I can click on the black or white and get color options or range to come up but can not find a place to delete the white part at
