Photoshop Trivia Game...

OK, OK, enough of this waiting around.? :B

The text tool insertion technique changed with PS5.5 to 6. The text insertion window disappeared and you used the text tool directly in the image window. The type palettes appeared (character and paragraph). From PS6 to CS you could change the typeface on multiple layers at once by linking them and holding down the shift key as you changed the Font either in the palette or menu bar. You can also change the size across multiple layers by linking, changing the font size in the menu bar or character palette, holding down the shift key and hitting return.

In CS2 the behavior changed again and all you need to do is link the type layers and make the changes. No shift key is needed any more.

I'm gonna change the 'rules' of this challenge a bit and if you look up an answer that's fine from now on. I'd like this Trivia game to be a learning tool more than a how-much-do-you-know (or remember) right this second sort of game.

So the new question:

What is the Threshold blend mode and when does it appear? :]

Good question. I'll hold on answering. hint: there are multiple answers for the second part of the question, isn't it, Welles?

Fine, I'll take a stab at it......I went and started messing around and found out if I created a new bitmap image then the blend mode on most of the tools changed to Threshold, but I havn't a clue what it is or does!? \:/

Ah ah! another hint: adjustment layers...

I think it apears when using greyscale/grayscale (for americans ;) ) and what it does is changes the threshold between white and black pixels or the detail of the image, e.g if I have a gradient from black to white, the higher the threshold, the more black pixels will be shown, if its lower, the more white. It would also come up when you have other colours e.g red to yellow etc. if this right then let me know and I'll give you a very tricky question!

Well, I was thinking of something different. When you are working in Bitmapped or Index modes, the Normal blend mode turns into Threshold but means the same thing. It appears in the Tool Options bar when you use tools which normally have blend modes associated with them during use. Pretty obscure...

However, please do add an obscure question, Techytez. I had given up on this thread entirely and you've breathed new life into it! 8))

that is obscure! hehe! on obscurity, this is a question I had been set by my Lecturer in Uni as I'm ahead of everyone in PS... the Q is (hard to explain):

when using opacity shadows, two overlapping shadows create a dark tone which doesnt happen in real life, how do you create two overlapping layers with an opacity of 50% blend together without the dark tone?

There is an easy way, which is not what i'm looking for but I'll accept it. The hard way will give you more credit! If you come up with both, then even better!

Well I've got two answers but only one does a 'guaranteed perfect' job, the other is more 'by hand'. However, I can't help but thinking I'm missing some elegant (and simpler) technique (my best way requires a couple of alpha channels). So I'll wait and see if someone else has an idea...? \:/

hmmm, I havent done it with alpha channels, perhaps there is a third answer? \:/ the answer i'm looking for is quite simple and involves layers ;)

Try to play with the blend if sliders (alt+click to do a gradual blend) in the blending options of the layers...

ahh I know what you meen, yes to an extent it works, but you still get a faint line where the two shadows meet
