Hey good day everyone. as you can see on one pictures the diamonds are "light up" and on the second picture they are not. What filter is being used to "light up" the diamonds? What technique? tanks! neckb.png vs neckg.png

I do have the best gear. This post is about how to retouch in photoshop the diamonds

The lighting during the shoot has to be perfect....Practice!

(I shot over 40 ROLLS many years ago to learn shooting crystal , the light is the "trick" lots of reflectors and heads... work well if set at the correct angles and planes)

When you say light up, I am only seeing a bit of enhancement you can add sparkles do that no problem a little whitish glow with a separate layer using transparency and perhaps a radial blur... Number of ways, but like I said I only see a bit of enhancement. Maybe these old eyes are failing lol

Well perhaps I'm not using the right word "light up" the diamonds - what I mean is how do I make the diamonds to look like the second picture

If this is what you need, do it Just like iDad stated.

Perhaps you can post a bit more detailed guide of the workflow - would be so appreciated

Beautiful work! The trick is get the light perfect in the camera little post processing is needed What iDad and SAM show is really just adding a white flash over your image....fooling us into seeing brilliance.

You might try some hdr shots....and add some over sharpening

As far as photographing that sort of thing, the trick is to light panels that reflect the light from the panels to the camera. To do it in post, like people have said, you paint highlights with white. Most of my paid work is product related, and you can really bring some of those items to life with well placed white. I paint a line of solid white on a new layer and blur it. Or place a circle of white and blur it. Or run a work path through complex curves, and stroke the path with a white brush, and blur it. Sparkles can be done with custom brushes like the Flare brushes by Karl s (my most used custom brush set)

[EDEI] If I was a total pedant, I'd create a single diamond, and make it into a Smart Object, and place multiple copies of that Smart object over the existing diamonds. Then I could play with the diamonds by editing one of the layers, and have it automatically update all the other Smart Objects. You'd have to be a bit crazy to do that with so many diamonds though.

Thank you a bunch for the detiled response.

what type of filter blur would you recommend ?

Btw the adobe link is broken

I can add "brilliance", "glow" to the diamonds just by painting the diamonds with white on a new layer and than blur the whiteness out? That's it or there's more tequniqes
