Opacity Options are disabled (greyed out)

I know this is an old thread, but you are right Pharoah that this is one circumstance (the only I can think of unless multiple layers are selected) that would explain the greyed out layer and the ctl click showing the selection. I hope the OP did find the solution. Could be one of those redface moments.
