need some help\ideas for a new year party poster

A room with padded walls go figure!:bustagut:
Well whatever it was it was, it was no biggie

I love the wrecking ball idea, but it bears no resemblance to that idea at the moment!

My ideas:

Put the 2014 out in front and spherize it as Sam suggested and brighten it up, repeat: brighten it up, lol. Then make the ball itself visible behind the numbers so that the numbers are obviously on that wrecking ball. You can find great images of lighted spheres on the web if you aren't sure how to make the effects (and want to learn it later), or people can direct you here, or you can google a tut. I would also do something to really spice up the 2014. Like Sam showed, a gradient or layer fx glows; beveling and shadows would not work in my opinion, unless they're used in a way to make the 2014 sink into the ball as if etched in. Pillow emboss or inner shadow can do that nicely. But that's a matter of taste.

Make your 2013 in a color/shade so that you can actually see it.

Now come the steps that take a bit more explaining:
  • Use the shattered glass -- which currently looks like it is sitting on a flat layer above everything -- duplicate the layer. Now move one of those layers above the 2013 font. Clip it to the font and check out the results. To clip it, hold down the alt/opt key and click between the layers. The shatter will show through just the letters now.
  • Next, make sure your other shattered glass layer is below the 2013. Use a hue/saturation layer adjustment and change it's color and maybe saturation. Play around with the idea of giving it an inner or outer glow in layer blending effects. You might also transform it to make it larger. I would try that anyway, maybe even offset it a bit.
Do share your results, even if not the finished product. We can help you as you progress through the steps.

Looking back at your image again, I take back the part about adding a sphere to the 2014. Too literal and I like the way you chose to do it, except as I said, I think Sam's idea to spherize it will make a big difference -- better.

Here's just an idea of how you might work with the shattered glass ideas. I didn't use your wrecking ball; I like the way you made it and it would look much better if it were incorporated into my image! And the colors may be too bright, etc., for what you have in mind. But I wanted to show you how you might use the clipped shatter and consider combining it in the background; how you could represent it anyway. I did use an overlay of the sphere and clip it to the 2014 to give it highlights and shadow.

Anyway, you asked for ideas, lol, so here's a couple of mine.
