Im trying to get the letter S to wrap around the letter I. I want the top of the letter S to wrap behind the letter I and the bottom to wrap in front. How would I go about this? Oh yeah, I'm a newbie using photoshop. Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help.

is this what you are talking about. let me know and i will post the instructions and the PSD for you.

yup thats it. thank you for helping. i just cant figure out how to put part of the letter behind and then to the front of another letter.

ok thats easy. type the letter S on a new layer in whatever shape and style you want, rasterise the layer. Now write letter I on a new layer and do the same as you did with S layer. Now select the rectangle marque tool (or whichever tool suits your needs e.g pen tool or lasso tool) make a selection of the part of S layer which you want behind the I. while the selection is active (marching ants) right click and choose "layer via cut", this will create that part of S in a new layer. Now You can rearrange the position of the new layer in the layers pallet to bring it behind the I.

Use new layer above respective components to add shading

i have also attached the PSD.

EDIT: Forgot to tell you that for shading i used 25% Flow and a 20px soft edged brush.

Type the "S" and the letter "I" each on it's own layer, then rasterize. Ctrl click the "I" layer icon to make a selection of it , turn off that layer and highlight the "S" layer. Erase the intersection of the S inside the selection.

Now do the opposite. Ctrl click the "S" layer icon to make a selection, highlight the "I" layer and erase the intersections on it.

Add shading if you want.
