as the title says, im just looking for some minor improvements to make this image "jump out" at bit more, Im doing this as a favor for a friend on an RP site and im just trying to make it have more of a 3 dimensional look. As it sits it looks very flat.

The wolf layer is hidden as i haven't even began to touch him yet, its the rest im worried about :)

maybe you need to see that the folliage should be really there and is not just flat, i'll try to watch for it but i can't promise you that i can do it maybe if we work with more people things could be perfect, nice pic btw and why is it called wolf project? can you tell more about the story of the pic?

Thanks! Basically she does alot of web based RP on some Wolf site and needed a picture of her "character". From what ive gathered, the wolf is supposed to be (very) Black with dark blue highlights and glowing cyan eyes. I saw some of her photoshop work and i noticed she always used an almost celestial theme when presenting him.

So this was my ultimate goal. a dark but spacy look ultimately drawing focus to the character without drowning him in visual noise.

Again thanks for the fast reply!

i may need a few more layers of foliage to pull it off and make it look like more than a half ass mockup, but this was the quick and dirty, so any minor improvement or suggestions are welcome. :)

ok i tried it but it went not so good as i expected it would be, its like the wolf is standing in front of a spot light :D
preview of what i achieved:

note: that word is a watermark, in case :D

mmm textured planet is the right way to go but not sure obvious Grass/ moss is the blue planet could be done being a bit further away from the front planet as they look to close maybe adding a layer of slight guassian blur as everything is crystal sharp or a slight motion blur on the floating rocks that look motionless but overall it is a nice picture

That is definatly shooting in the right direction. I think that will work once the wolf has been edited/blurred/colored ect lol. I may use that lighting style for the dark blue highlights!

some quick adjustements to the wolf and liquified a part at his cheek

uploaded wrong pic

That hadn't even occurred to me, ill try that now and upload the results!

Wolf Project3.jpg

how does that come out? and what do you want to be adjusted more?

Thats fantastic! The wolf itself is my last priority in the image, but the lighting for him looks spot on.

I've added a slight lens blur and distanced the planet a bit more here which looks spectacular, my new problem is how the foliage layer looks tacked on.

i'll try it out on my pic as well ;)

Wolf Project4.jpg

there you go the main problem with the folliage is that it is on a planet, and you can't see the atmosphere , its like it just ends there

thats awesome! From here, i think im going to add some sort of atmosphere as per Ice's suggestion, maybe make it more convincing hes on a planet

another liquify for the wolf and made a little atmosphere with outer glow
Wolf Project5.jpg

maybe use my settings for outer glow :)
blend mode: screen
opacity 13%
noise 0%
glow is white to under layers
technique softer
spread 6%
size 250px
and the rest is as it was before
