Line art

I got a commission to create a line art from a portrait photo. Something like this.
I tried several tutorials on interwebz but they are almost always specific about creating figures from sketches. There are some that use pen tool, but I have some problem about recreating the same effect. Any ideas? I also bought a new wacom bamboo so it would be nice to have something to try it on

Use the pen tool and create the black shapes on a new layer above a white canvas.....

I did exactly the same for creating my avatar. If you need any help with this I will be glad to help you out.

Make 2 anchor points then click in the middle on the line and then hold down ctrl and then drag the middle anchor point that will allow you to create a curve.

i have a question regarding to pen tool usage.
i'm quite new using it and i can recognize the advantages of it.
question is: is there a way making complex shape sketch using just a paths like curved line of the same thickness and regular line endings, and then when finished apply various brush effects (that are available in artisitic or caligraphic brushes).
i would not limit this question just on photoshop as i prefer making this in coreldraw, if possible.

I am not entirely sure about Corel draw. For PS, you can try saving the path that is created in the 'Path' channel the right click and stroke path. It will ask for a tool you would like to stroke from the menu. You have to have the tool setup before you apply the stroke I believe cause it won't give you option after you select the tool.
