I Want to Turn a Whale into Water

I'm working on a photoshop composition and I need to do some special effects, namely turning a whale into water. I found a similar picture of what I'm referring to where someone turned horses into hair. Here's what I mean:

So, is there any way I can have a similar effect with water such as with these flames:

but with a whale?

This may help you, yes its a bottle and not a whale - but with a little imagination and some time you should be able to work out the differences WHALE TO WATER TUT

and I want to turn water into wine!

So do you want the whale coming out of the water like the horses come out of the hair? Or the other way around. I'm not quite visualizing your idea.

Thanks for the tutorial, Paul, but that isn't quite what I'm looking for.

Okay, maybe this image will help provide more understanding:

So, how does one go about creating this effect?

By the way, if you go hunting for where I found this picture, you'll notice that it actually is from a photoshop website, but it doesn't help me because it turns out that the guy who made the butterfly just did it from scratch out of water formations. As that probably can't be done with something as round and unshapely as a whale (without it just looking like a big blob), I want to see if I can somehow take the picture of an actual whale and convert it to water to get a similar effect as shown above.

Somene posted a tutorial not so lng ago about turning things into ice if you follow that which I will have a look for and then place some water brush splashes around it then it should look just as good

Yeah i did, lol.
This will help you in a different way, go and experiment Glass

That's a cool tutorial, the water elemental. A little hard to follow here and there but with time, patience, and rereading... lol! And then again, it might just be me :D (written vs. visual learning)

Start by getting images of GLASS ANIMALS, GLASS FISH, ETC., use these as references.
Follow the tutorials listed above of liquefy objects, and happy trails as there is no single effect or filter that can achieve this.
I see a good 2-3 hours work time will get this done easily.

Please post final result when done.

I followed along with what I could of the PDF tutorial, tweaked it a little when I couldn't do a step, and came out with the first image. After a bit more tweaking and changing it to look more like a painting, I created the second picture, the final outcome.

I can see what your trying to do, but to be honest it just looks like a whale jumping out the water covered in sea spray, not the crystal glass/water effect you asked for?

I played around with your image using the ice tutorial. I did a couple things differently because the selective color adjustments have about zilch effect on the tones of the whale. I use a levels adjustment and brought the white point way down. Then instead of using an eraser to increase the transparency, use a mask. Then you can go back and forth if you want to change the "erasure."

So to this point you have the whale. If your own whale is good compared to this, then I would suggest that your main problem is the spray and that it is not transparent enough. I think you did a good job with how it looks as a pattern of water and spray though. I will say that.

Thx Dreamers. I'll take a look. That tutorial wasn't listed under tuts but was part of our weekly challenge when we were doing that last year.

I watched it. Pretty cool tutorial. I like when effects are made from "scratch.'' I'll have to look at more of his videos. Thanks for the link.
