I took what I think is a great picture today what do you think

It's a nice image mate, but the blurred out portions in my opinion don't really add to the image. Theres two differing areas of focal trickery that take you away from the main subject.
Maybe do a full water blur but only mildly not over do it.
Also, maybe a burn to the swans edges just to add a little definition to it, it looks stuck on to the back ground.

actually the blur is natural from using a telephoto zoom lense it was about 50 meters away from me here is the original (unedited) cant help the blur sorry

I am a big fan of selective colouring photography so I am aware most users will probably prefer this version but I have to follow my heart when it is personal taste lol

Mate i ain't one to shoot at people, especially ones that are better than me.
But the image looks 'doctored' sorry if that's harsh but i can see tell tale signs - things like poor cut out/edge definition, over sized pixels to main image, compared to rest of image pixel sizes?
I could be massively wrong here but this just looks doctored.
Apologies if i am wrong mate.

just looked on raw format and same thing is there on a 60mb file in my defence to the allegation it may be cut out do you think I am that good at cutting out semi transparant water drips (from beak) and various droplets around the body white feathers sticking up perfectly and yet cant manage a perfect straight black line with contrasting blue background

Like i said in my previous post 'hope i am wrong', just looked that way is all.

like I said colour enhancement from raw to jpeg black and white layer with colour painted in on beak but no cutting out backgrounds etc I wish I was that good but I think cutting out water droplets is near impossible but you pointed out a valid point and even made me look at it twice or 10 times lol as I was confused and was like wtf lol. its all good though is there such thing as the perfect picture probably not but hopefully 1 day I will take it

This raises a interesting point do any of the photographers understand my point and could they please explain the difference if any that would be seen IF two image got combined as one, would the pixel edges show the difference or would they be the same size regardless, also like in the original posted image, does a zoomed in photograph raise the problem of edge pixel differences, between foreground and background?
Thanks in advance.

I always assumed pixels were the same size it will take the size of what your display output is you cant have larger pixels itegrated within smaller pixels see Pixel - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I do believe what you are referring to is the swans teeth but it is dissapointing that I got almost perfect focus from such a distant on the white areas etc but not the blacks maybe the imnage sensor only had chance to focus on the white being most contrasing but yes it is a good question

I think that swan is BEAUTIFUL!! To me it also looks like you have gotten that Golden Section thing right on spot. I like it much better now that you posted the original, the black and white/ colored one was cool, but the colors of the water against the rest is a lot more eye catching. I also like that you can see the yellowish parts of the feathers so that it doesn´t just look flat white.

Sorry about my English, I do fine on an everyday basis, but it´s not really that good for reviews. :)

Oh, and your butterfly is also beautiful. This time I like the "black and white" one better. The background brings out the colors, on the original, the green is a bit too distracting and makes the butterfly wings blend in a and fade a bit. :)

yeah I was just seeing how I could use the plug in silver effects pro instead of a black and white only filter it is like a silver and black filter as well so sharper colours I like it but not had much use for it in the past lol

what camera equipment do you use hoogle?

Nikon D90 and Nikon D5000 various array of lenses from 18.55mm 50-80mm a 50mm 55-200mm 55-300mm 55-400mm plus an array of speedlights

expensive... for me :D it think you have really nice pics :)
