How to use Photoshop to make a tooth colour analysis?

The xxx/xxx display only occurs when you have certain adjustment layers (eg, curves, levels, brightness/contrast, etc.) turned on and highlighted in the layer stack. Once you select another layer, ie, are not actively adjusting the curves or levels, the info display reverts back to the normal xxx mode.

Tom, here is my today real case:

1)i took a sample tool rgb of a A2 shader placed close to patient's tooth: 221 197 172
well...it's rgb should be the same as A2 on the image below with VITA shaders. but A2 rgb is: 194 176 140
so not even close although both photos were taken with gray card to correct the white balance


2)i try to correct the rgb values manually of the below image with VITA shaders but i don't know why those rgb values in sample #1 and #2 are different:

i'm stuck.please help.
image on the right in an actual patients tooth with A3 shade.
on the left there is the same A3 shade.

both pictures were taken with gray card to math the white balance but still they are different and color range doesn't select the picture on the left.

what i need is to match those shades on these two pictures. how can i do that?

I reviewed your video and believe I found two mistakes that occur when you are adjusting the R, G, and B curves.

The first error appears to be that for each of the 3 curves, you selected the point that was originally at input=0, output=0 to edit. This is an error. You never want to change either of the endpoints of the curves. Instead, you want to make a new point in the middle of each curve (by clicking on it), and then edit its coordinates.

If I understand your video and your overall goal correctly, your second error is that it looks like you are entering the same number for the input and output values of each point that you are editing. Instead of this, you want the input value to be the R, G, or B value from color sampler #1 (the sample being held near the patient's teeth in this video), and the output value to be the R, G, or B value from color sampler #2 (the color chart).

I didn't notice any other errors, but if you run into further problems, let me know.

tooth picture matches shades and color mapping works great.

p.s.i know that photo of the teeth should be without white spots.

do you think that there is a better way to represent color map than small MOSAIC filter at startup?

I can't answer your last sentence / question because I have no idea what exactly you are trying to do with the Mosaic filter. Your last video shows so many steps and goes so fast, I can't tell anything about the Mosaic filter from the video without attempting to stop it ever half second at exactly the right spots to follow all the steps.

If you want help on this, you will have to give a separate explanation / video.

By the way, are you still a student in dental school or a practicing dentist? Also, may I ask how do you plan on using this very lengthy Photoshop action that you are trying to develop?

i'm already a dentist (5 years in practice). i'm going to take a picture of a tooth with gray card and VITA shader (try to make it without white blow out spots), second photo with white spots (it shows the tooth structure and light behaviour). next i match white balance of a picture with VITA shader on pc and run the action. that's all. now i send it to my technician who will use those colors to make a crown for a tooth or veneer. there is only one tool on the dental market to do such thing as i told you before and it gives such output images:

last video was only to show you that your help was fruitful.

right now my map is made of pixel color dots or small mosaic squares if i use a filter, but do you know any way to get this result? i mean a color inside a contour or rounded shape.

hm..i tried but i'm not good enought...will wait for your tutorial if you will find time to post it.
here is my current testing file when one layer A3 color should match A3 on the other image...so color matching should be done to the whole image but based on this sample rectangle color. can't find tutorial to do it.
