How to make image fill screen to maximum as default

So do I gather from your last statement that you don't have your panels docked?

If thats the case then it isn't going to happen how you want it.

Dock your panels on the right hand side and all those options will use only the remaining 'workspace'. With 'floating' panels the image will always go behind them no matter what you do.

Yes, they are docked to the right side.

I think I understand what your talking about. A screenshot would be worth a thousand words.

Alrighty here you go, the long explanation

So here is a shot from when I open the photo. The photo stretches beyond the canvas which makes the transform
guides also go beyond the canvas. That is why I need it to zoom out a couple clicks right away, my very first task is to transform
the photo to resize it, this is not the issue though... As you can see, there is a lot of empty space (the black hole). This is currently
set to "Fit on Screen" automatically but I would like it to be set to "Fill Screen".

If it was, the document window would go all the way out to the panels to the right like this.
Then when I zoom back in (which it also does automatically) I will be able to actually use all of my screen.
No more black hole, YAY!!!

I realized this whole fuss is to save me a couple clicks of the mouse. But when your doing this workflow all day long
those clicks add up. So I want to be as efficient as possible.

Also, if anyone is interested, the reason I'm making a fuss about making the most use of my screen is that I'm trying out the 13" Wacom Cintiq.
I have the 22" version but I think I'm switching to the smaller one for the sake of mobility. I've only had it a few days so I'm still undecided, but I
can share my thoughts on it if anyone is interested.

Although I can see exactly what the problem is here I'll let IamSam explain it to you...he uses a fruit machine too so it would be better coming from him.

OK...Sam has passed the buck back to me, (he's using Paint or something), so you'll have to make do with a 'Windows' solution...

Still no evidence of the document going 'behind' any panels as you stated but still...

In Preferences change the default document setting to 'Tabbed'...

I had to guess the size of the image you are using but when its opened in a 'Tabbed' form it opens to 'Fill' the available space in the workspace...

Any more than that and I dunno....best ask a 'Mac' user.

Ok, I'm done with the honey-do's. (Had to buy paint for a room......along with some other annoying stuff!)

Anyway, I'm going to focus on the document thing. The only way I could reproduce the problem was by opening larger images into a smaller document.

For instance, here is an image that is 980px x 649px. Notice that it opened in it's full size.

When I open the larger image into the smaller document, the image stretches beyond the canvas.
When I enter Free Transform, the transform handles are also beyond the edges of the canvas.

So it seems to me that you are opening images into a smaller, perhaps preset document/canvas size.

Thanks IamSam, but you misread the problem, sorry if it was confusing. The only thing I was trying to do was use the "Fill Screen" option in an action or a script.
The transform guides going outside the canvas is part of my workflow that I do on purpose.

At this point, I'm just assuming there is no way to do it. I thought anything could be scripted, but maybe not.

Thank you very much for trying to help!!!
