How to cut out images into PNG’s clean?

Hi! I’ve been using the quick select tool and the automatic PS cut out tool to cut out an imagine, but they are never a clean cut therefore I can’t add effects behind them without all the jagged edges and weird spots. So, how can I cut out an image into a PNG clean? I’m very uneducated about the pen tool — so any advice on that would also be appreciated.

I myself would recommend the Pen Tool if accuracy is your objective. It has a steep learning curve but you won't ever regret learning it! I will add that not all situations require the Pen Tool. The selection technique will be dependent on the image and the subject/object to be selected. But learning the Pen Tool will greatly increase your skill and ability to make exact selections!

Not following you on the PNG mention............perhaps you just mean a file that preserves transparency. It really has very little to do with "cutting out" images.

Hi @supakixbabe
It would help forum members help you if you posted screenshots of your work and/or results along with the step-by-step approach you take.
There are probably many solutions to your issue, yet more details would help forum members provide targeted recommendations.
Just my quick thoughts.
