How can I do this?

C&D I apologise for the misunderstanding of your original post, but you needn't worry about a thing. Your beautiful results with the leaf girl more than exonerated you from any suspicion of web theft!
The information regarding the sad situation of web theft, as well as gathering learning materials still needed to be said, not for you as much as other, somewhat misguided members... [innocent]

Please grace us with your future projects, as your results truly are beautiful to behold!

Although I don't care for the bug being green, I am captivated by the 3d effect you achieved with that one leaf on her shoulder. Simply beautiful. :}

Thank you MsOz I appreciate that. For clearing up the misunderstanding and for the complement. :)

About the green bug. I don't like it either. However, it was the only bug picture I had to work with. It was also red. If I had not added the gradient map it wouldn't have shown up. The butterfly idea would have worked out perfectly if I had a butterfly photo to work with. :)

I've never been accused of being overly sensitive; many thanks!

I still maintain that your response to the earlier post was not a particularly encouraging one; in fact, it reads almost like an admonishment, as does the response to MY post. I know when I've hit a brick wall.. sorry for ruffling your feathers. It really was unintended, I assure you.

Jaycee

Well Jaycee, to clarify things for you, they both WERE admonishments, no almost to it. They are not meant to encourage behavior foisting effort onto others, but hopefully to encourage self-effort at discovering answers rather than expecting solutions by merely posting a question, with little to no self-effort evident. And, Cloak & Dagger did manage to find sufficient encouragement to help him solve his problem and share his results.
Glad you're able to recognize hard sufaces when you hit them. That can come in handy on dark nights as well as Forum boards... :bustagut:
Intended or not, my feathers were not, and are not ruffled by you, because I'm quite acquainted with "PC" (Politically Correct) police on the Web, who involve themselves in posts not directed to them, in threads that they have no involvement with, for the sole purpose of telling others how they should or should not reply to posts. Some become so obsessively focused that they actually become Forum stalkers, or ForumOrcs, as they are also known.
You certainly aren't the first, and probably won't be the last to think all posts should always be all light, happy, and encouraging in a positive, uplifting way. But hopefully you now have a little better understanding of how Internetiquette is not quite like Emily Post would expect it to be...In fact, some forums have REALLY hard brick walls when it comes to such things... [saywhat]

In general, most people are willing to make some effort to learn Photoshop, they just need to be pointed in the direction to find the answers for themselves. We learn more by doing than by having someone do it for us...You shouldn't project concerns about how others may or may not react. As C&D pointed out in very plain English,
I didn't take offence at the accusation. This has not emotionally injured me in any way.
So, your concerns were unwarranted.

YO! C&D! Sorry your thread got hijacked like that. It happens sometimes with new members...But, back to the "ugly" green bug...here are a couple butterflys from my Hemera Photo Object sampler. They have some wonderful .jpgs as well as a lot of other beautiful graphics images ( www.hemera.com ). Hopefully you can use one of them for your Leaf Girl...

MsOz,

Thank you for sharing your butterflies. I couldn't use the original idea because of the size of the photo of the girl. So I did a little experimenting and this is what I came up with. I don't like to do the same thing twice. So, I tried to improve on the subject a little more. Even made a couple of mistakes that worked in my favor. I don't know about the plant life to the right of the subject. I was trying something new, but I'm still not sure if I really like it or not. \:]

What do you think? Does that plant work or not? \:] [confused]

oooooooooooo!!!!! :} :} :} :} :} :}

You've won the esteemed "my wife wants a full sized copy of this picture" award. :D Are you posting the original or a resized copy?

Double what Moth said!!!
OOOOooooo!!!! Vewy, VEWY PWETTY! As Elmer Fudd would say...hey, it's late Friday, ya gotta blow off steam somehow, okay?

The greenery really makes a difference to this piece. It's almost too much, but like you, I'm not sure where I would draw the line. Edit I think the red dots in the greenery should go, and maybe trim back the shrubbery just a bit, especially the brownish leaves The addition and the butterfly really help this piece look more "polished." I think it's the way her face seems to now be peeking out from under the greenery. Nice composition.

Now you should make another one in the same style. Try for a series of 3 maybe...I know I'd love to see another piece like this and what you'll come up with for the theme...
Fantastic work, C&D.
Makes me want to ask if I can use her as my avatar...

MsOz

Indeed: you can be proud of yourself here. What a week for you! Now just think back of how you felt/what you thought when you first opened this thread, and then look at what you have achieved. And when those thoughts you had come back, switch immediately to how you feel/think now. The next quantum-leap will be easier.

Hats of! 8))

Moth,

The image you see was saved for the web. I also got all the images from the web, so I don't think they would be printable. However, it might work as desktop wallpaper on the computer. I can send you a copy for that.

MsOz,

The red dots on the leaves were berries. I think a cluster of vines would have worked better, however, of all the stock photos that I have this was the only image that would work. To answer your question, "Yes, you may use it as your avatar if you want to."

Erik,

Thanks for your support. I'm just glad that I was able to learn this. It is also a reminder to me once again that my strength is image editing and not graphic art. So, I guess I will get back to image editing once again.

Thank you everyone for all your support with this project.

Now I have a question. When I was looking through my photos, all of them were just free stock photos, I noticed that I really didn't have much to choose from. Some of them were only the size of a large postage stamp, and no that is not a figure of speech, that is what size some of them were. So, the reality is I had even fewer images to choose from than I thought. However, I can't stand waiting to download those free stock photos. I have download burnout. Images on CD would do best for me.

Hemera is a good choise, however, I would have to choose a Mac or Windows format. I have a PC at this time and it has one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. My next computer will be a Mac. So, investing in any Windows format CDs would not be practical decision.

Do any of you know of Photos on CD that will work on Windows and Mac? I have found Textures on CD, but not Photos on CD. I have a 56k Modem that loads online at 26k. So, waiting for even one photo to download is a full-time job. I would like to avoid that route. Having them on CD would solve this problem. I have been to Photos.com and Photospin.com, however, they don't offer them on CD, you have to download them, and with images that range from 4-5MB I have no plans to join that club.
