Patrick, Make it ...This little "car" of mine...and start up your mouse.
If you visualize it, you can materialize it.

Well guys tomorrow I start looking at my car in a new light looking at the details...I need to learn how and when to apply highlights, crisp edges and that glass like finish.
I might have to clean my car first if I expect to learn anything..as it stands, it shows no reflection even in Florida's sunlight (I think it actually absorbs light at this stage!), Hell, I'm starting to wonder what color it is? Its looking a matte kinda brownishgrayishdullishsilver....

Mouse? I don need no stinkin mouse. I just put my hand on the cpu, squeeze my eyes shut and I'm in.....

Somebody unplug his computer...and nobody ever heard from ronmatt again..

The legend goes that ronmatt had the perfect car design for a PSG forum challange but couldn't get "it" or "himself" out of his computer. Ronmatt was caught in a electromagnetic wasteland. To this day, the people of California attribute computers static to ronmatt's trying to share his car design with the world...Rock-on!

Well I fired away at my less-then-concept car ....I did two in fact:
One looked to old style... kinda Firebird-Corvettie-Rx7-chevyNova-ish, and my more futuristic one looked like an ugly fish tank! With ugly fish!
Something was gained today, I think I know what I don't want!

My drawing skills a little rusty but starting to come back (haven't made a drawings from scratch in years, much less a car)...I can't seem to paint "cool-airbrushy-like" worth a damn...I definetly need to hunt down some tutorials! Or sift through ronmatt's trash.

I'm firing away too. Not as easy as I thought it would be. I think I want to do something with some perspective. I have no problem with the rendering, but like the car I posted earlier, can't get the wheels to work.
So here's a hint, start with the wheels and build the car around them.
(I may be advising myself here)

HOO-RAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AAhhhhhhh...Grrrrrr...@#!%&* ... I've drawn something most people will recognize as a car, I'm happy with my car....but my painting ... my painting bites!!!! Bites!! Bites!!! Ahhh..@#^ double damn....caca!

I'm trying to make crisp clean glass-like lines and shapes, with highlights...instead I'm getting matte-dull finish streaks of house latex paint over chaulk!!!..ahhhhh...Somebody give me a fork!! (knives are to messy)

Hows everybody else doing?

here's a glass effect that you may be looking to achieve. I have some custom contours I'll try to attach, just place them in 'presets> contours. they're quite helpful. The base however is all done using blurs, stretching and compressing blurs couldn't send the contours.

My work in progress...

Here's what I have going so far..I've worked my butt off on this thing.
Having to learn everything new, had to look up the word "render" to know what ronmatt was talking about.lol... So far its been a hoot. This car is 100% mine no tracing or copying a particular car, no manipulating pictures (I don't care if other do, I just wanted to see if "I" could make something from scratch)...! I obvouisly got ideas from other cars..and boy did I want to borrow things from other cars...
I originally made a "red" car but it was a little flat...then I tried layer styles and wow, between Satin and gradients it came to life.. if gave it the glassy look I wanted..the gold gradient was a mistake...out of nowhere it look good, if I say so myself...

Its a thousand time better then I expected!! It really started to came together today...all my reading on how to color comics, airbrushing, ronmatts ideas and peekingrabbits answering my masking issue is starting to make sense...I'm still very lost because some effects I'm not exactly sure how or why they came about...?

I got pretty decent with the pen tool making the lines of the car from my drawing.
It's got tons of issues I hope I can address, but I'm jazzed anyway!! :D

This is hopefully a work in progress, needs lights and wheels, interior etc...color changing is so easy with gradients that I'll settle on a color later.

so far, I'm impressed. The design and the technique at this point is perfect.I'm hoping, for your sake, that the guidelines aren't part of the rendering(?). Now think along these lines. You don''t have to allpy grads etc. to the car directly. you can do them independently and apply them.Keep it up and blow me out of the water.

Ronmatt the guidelines aren't part of the rendering but I'm having trouble with it looking right without them...anyway I'm pluging away.
Thanks for the kind words,
Lasa

Here's how its put togther...the background layer and then a highlight layer... I'm going to paint it all again...hopefully I learned enough from this test to make it even better...

here's a hint. once you've got the design, separate it into parts. work on the 'parts' as individual renderings. then re-assemble them. that way , if you're happy with, say ,the body, but not the top, you can save the body and re-work the top until you're happy with it. You can tie everything togetherlater. After assembling and merging, make a copy of the assembled rendering. make the copy a complimentry color and do some hilighting and shadowing on that layer. Then add transparancy to the copy layer. and don't forget, the eraser is a brush too, as important as applying effects is removing them. Take a look at Maxfield Parrishs' work. It's all color removal.

Well I'm back..after hours of work I have nothing to show... :(|
I'm thinking of putting some lights on this puppy and call it my entery. :D
I could easily become obsessed with this.. }P

I've been working on this little ditty for about.............oh....................fifteen minutes or so. Finally got it done. I think I'm gonna call it an SL55. Pretty cool, huh? It's going to be supercharged with about 500 ponies and do 0-60 in 4.3 seconds. I was thinking of sending it to Mercedes or somebody. Maybe they'll pick it up and actually do a production run. Never hurts to ask.

Whadda think? :D

Ron, I'm a photographer, not a graphic designer so I had to cheat a little. Hope you don't mind.

Great looking rig by the way. Wish I could do that. ;)
