Hey all, thank you for your responses. I have started over and no matter what I do I am unable to cut and paste this particular layer. Vafann the way I was planning on doing it was cutting from the second layer then immediately pasting to create the third layer. The idea is to have the opacity of layer two very low over the background and the outlying area to be full opacity. I'm at a loss.

I don´t understand what you mean by "cutting from the second layer then immediately pasting to create the third layer" Where are you trying to paste what you have cut out? On top of the layer you cut it from? I don´t think you can you that, if you create a transparent layer to paste it into, then you can drag that over to create the third layer. Does this make sense? :)

Cut and paste or new layer via cut creates its own layer
