Oh we really do need a space for moaning and venting computer headaches don't we?

Never ever let a well intended family member touch your computer I say :bustagut:

Out of the blue my hubby decides late last night to be a help me and installed the new High Sierra to my Mac since he had already done all of his computers down stairs..... He never touches my personal work computer unless I ask but for some reason he decided to do me a favor and it went terribly wrong. This new update erases all the old system and completely reloads it so it takes a long, long time to complete but finally it finished and I got out of bed to turn off my computer when all that was showing was a real hazy picture and a huge black square and locked down tighter than Fort Knoxs...complete and utter crash.

My fault for not backing it up sooner as life got in the way and I had forgotten..... so the latest back up was almost 90 days old. Good news is all my work was stored in a external hard drive so all was well and no unfinished projects lost...just the hassel of staying up to midnight to reload a old copy, then update everything all over again and sift through the lot to weed out the trash I no longer wanted on it any longer that was reinstalled. Then find a copy of a important skin color chart a member had sent me on here and get that saved again...etc

Oh well lesson learned.... back up on a regular schedule and always back up before installing anything.......Bet ya I wont be forgetting to do that anymore.
Gezzzzz what a night

Yep backing up before a major OS update is always a good idea, I run a regular image backup every Thursday, before that I run all app updates and clean out the thrash meaning temp files and other such thrash, run full AV and Malware checks
It's always good to have something to fall back on should the unthinkable happen, as in the below:bustagut:

I run a Time Machine backup on my mac which does hourly backups on everything. One thing I've always practiced with my iMac's is that I never rush into new updates. If my current OS is functioning fine, I will wait awhile before installing the latest and greatest until enough time has passed for the bugs to be worked out.

@Pipsmom Did you find the skin color chart? If not, I have a copy if your referring to this one.............

Thank you Sam, yes I did eventually locate it.....best tip you guys ever showed me is that chart

I worked with High Sierra all day and after a few filters crashes and odd behaviours I just got finished reverting back to just plain old Sierra which I know works all the time. I don’t like updates either but this one really upset my computer so I’ll wait till they be the bugs out also
