Having problems with 3D rendering.

Hello i've been making 3D stuff for quite a while now, but i rendered my first animation yesterday. And it takes up 5 gb of space, while only being 30 seconds long. It is in full HD, but is it really normal for it to take up this much space.
It doesnt seem normal and i'm not very good at render settings, so if anyone can help it would be awesome.

ooohh yeah, and i'm using cinema 4D R12.
 
If you are doing it at high resolution instead of AVI I tend to change my renders to quicktime movie and in all honesty you will not notice the difference for example

top video in that post is the untouched cinema 4d rendered AVI file 600 Mbs

the 2nd 1 I took the top video into after effects and rendered it out as wmp format and that is 29Mbs if it is for youtube and 1080 then there really is no need to select best settings.

Also if you are having settings like global illumination on that will increase render times and file size

if you have a lot of lights in the scene especially soft boxes they require longer render times and bigger file sizes

I tend to compromise my lights by adding luminance to my texture rendering is a lot quicker and smaller file sizes.

However if you are using things like vray then you will need the best settings and larger file sizes

I believe Nick over at greyscale Gorilla.com has a good tutorial video on render settings with pros and cons. check him out
 
Thanks a bunch, though render time isnt a problem on my PC.
And it seems like you are really good at Cinema, so do you have any series of tuts you could recomend or something??
 
I am actually about to launch a series on my new channel just rendering out a basic template which will also be available for free download no plugins required just change the colours to your needs and the text etc.
 
Certainly can all though this is my new channel just been put in for partnership so I can get the longer than 15 min limits videos and live stream stuff with interactive questions etc.

So not filling it with content just yet until it all goes through

and I think judging by your name on here you are already subscribed to 1 of my other channels which will be deleted as soon as this new 1 takes off, It got full of quick tutorials for the forum requests here and made no sense to my other subscribers.

And not to mention flooded by can you make a minecraft intro for me crap. Even now when you would have thought people had moved on from it.
