Finally, here is the result of taking the full-rez version of the original into PS and down rez'ing it using PS's plain-Jane "bicubic" algorithm. As you can see, the stair-steps in this version is considerably better than any of the previous versions posted in this thread, and the JPG artifacts are a bit better.

A large part of the reason for this is that this file was small enough that it didn't trigger PSG's down-rez'ing software, only it's JPG compressor. Another part is the quality of the algorithm that I used is better than the forum's.

The bottom line is that if you want images to display optimally in PSG, take control of your image. Don't be lazy and let the PSG uploader take control out of your hands.

Note also that all the images I posted in this sequence, including the last one, are all JPGs -- no pngs, no tifs, etc.

Cheers,

Tom

Not so much a matter of laziness on our parts, but ignorance of this information; and I doubt there are very many of us who know how to manipulate the algorithms. In fact, you lost me, lol.

Sorry, Clair. Poor choice of words on my part.

I should have said, "...if you want images to display optimally in PSG, take control of your image. Don't let the PSG uploader take control out of your hands - down rez your images yourself using the usual "image size" tool in PS. Just set the maximum dimension to be under 700 pixels and the jpg "quality" control to give you a file size under about 300k and you should be fine."

That's great, Oh-for. The folks from my call center in Pyongyang will be calling you shortly to discuss which organs you would like to donate. ;-)

Just imagine, I had to go all the way to South Africa for that useful tidbit. ;]

Thank you!

Hahah it's a pleasure.

I usually just put the quality high and set the resolution to 300 dpi. I'm not sure if that would solve your problem.

I think Tom Mann explained it well! I learnt some useful stuff there. Thanks Tomm
