Freelance section

You heard the boss, back to bending pixels...

We were never about anything else.
This was all about the Freelance section as far as I was concerned.
We all need to respect that section.

People posting intricate or complicated jobs in that section deserve professional results.
Our freelancers will deliver those results and hopefully generate more work by reputation.

As for the "can you do this or that for me posts", yes they're one time posters but they provide a continuous stream of challenges for our members looking to improve their talents and enjoy themselves.

Aaahhhhhh. OK, the distinction between the Freelance section and the rest of the forum was unclear to me. Thanks for clearing that up. This is a great community and I was loving the way people helped others without regard to the person's status or post count.

Keep up the good work!!

I´m really glad that this thing got sorted out, I was getting really upset there for a moment. This forum would be utterly worthless if no one would help, or do things for others for free. I think the distinction between the Freelance section and the rest of the forum should be good and clear, and should actually be the only place here where people do things for money. I think that if anyone posts a request for paid services in any of the other forums, that they should be redirected to the Freelance forum, so that everything involving this kind of work is kept clearly in one place, so that there can be no misunderstandings.

In the rest of the forums it should be freely up to the individual to decide how much they want to help, and do things for others. There are probably like a million sites on the www that you can order paid services from, there are very few that are as helpful and fun as PSG, if any at all, and I think we should keep it this way, otherwise it will not stand out in the way that it does, and will eventually just vanish into the rest of the fog and die.

Here is the original discussion:
http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-gurus-site-suggestions/32523-freelance-section.html

I don't know how "Don't post un-watermarked images in Freelance" got morphed into "Don't help people" but I'm really glad Stric9 started this post and we all had this conversation.

The purpose of PSG is to HELP, HELP, HELP, all our members that post questions and to improve your own Photoshop skills.

Happy Photoshoping friends.

If this site was primarily a forum that edited graphics for a fee it would be counterproductive to have people posting work in a free section.

You raised a legitimate argument and so did hawkeye when he mentioned something like this, but 99% of this sites members are amateurs that want to learn more about Photoshop, help others, show what they can do, and just have fun.

I think the entire issue boils down to the difference between helping people learn Photoshop versus simply working for them without compensation. People trying to learn are here all the time doing just that, while people looking for something for nothing only come back to ask for more free work.

I've said more than enough on the subject.

Take this thread for an example (not throwing stones please no get offended) http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum/photoshop-newbies/32647-how-can-i-do.html
The name of the thread itself implies that the original poster wants to learn how to do it, not have someone do it for them. But when you see request in the title regardless of what section it is in someone wants something done for them. In my opinoin that shouldn't be for free.
Just tryn to clarify.

Yeah, I got sucked in on this one. I gave the guy the simplest way you could possibly achieve what he wanted and he whined that he just couldn't get it. So I posted my result out of what? frustration? Did he come back and say thank you? Right.

I love to help when I can but I get pretty po'd at the flippant attitude: just do this for me, I deserve it cause I'm me. I think there's a grey area. But then, my fault if I give something away then get upset about it, nobody holding a gun to my head! It is helpful to me to help others. I'm just disappointed by the frequent lack of courtesy, sigh.

That is another good point many users have improved a lot from tackling other peoples problems I dont want to sound bad or show people up but Look at some of the work Clare is producing now 3 months ago she would never have posted such high standard work, She has come a long way from interacting with other people (sorry Clare no offence)

None taken darlin! In fact, thank you for the left handed compliment :D

Look, guys. If in the midst of interesting discussion someone comes up with: Ok, I'll do it 4 a couple of greenbacks. What should I do? Just drop the subject so that not to spoil somebodys moonlighting? Or what?

I agree that people asking just for free job are bad, but to agree to get the job done for money here is bad too. In the long term it will turn this good site to just another self promotion and freelance market.

Gurus would eventually stop sharing ideas, we would get into old "competition". We would hold good ideas for fear they would be "stolen" or otherwise used behind our backs.

So my point is: don't want to make something for free - don't ask payment. Period! Not here. Don't encourage them. The more you do, the more they come back. Don't feed them.

Or it wouldn't be fun visiting this site any more...
