Was a decision ever reached regarding this idea? I have been on forums that had donations and it worked well for having contests and such. I'm thinking if at least half the $$ went back into the forum for upgrades and such, it would make it easier for people to give it up. I personally bought many of my friends VIP passes.

For WindowsBBS Forum, a paid (life) membership only gets you no ads on the forum, but it's a good way to "give back" for the help received to support the forum and the hardware needed to keep things running.
I've been here one day and have already had my bacon pulled from the proverbial fire: it'd be worth it for me.
