Specific Change the colour of water in a glass

Hi friends,

I am a beginner in Photoshop. I have an image of a guy holding a glass of water. Is it possible to change the colour of water, so that it will look like whiskey? I tried selecting the glass alone, making a new layer, flling it with colur and changing the opacity. But it is not working, may be because my skill and knowledge is not enough.

Somebody please help me. I am attaching the image. Thanks in advance.

Certainly without problems
I created a solid color layer
superimpose fusion
I reversed the mask
and with a white brush I selected the wine
