Brush Pixelation on transparent background?

Okay, here is a PNG image with the transparencies. I looked at it in an image viewer, and it looked fine. But when I loaded it into Photoshop, it had the pixelated edges and center.

Oh, and to iDad and Steve, I know that it is a feathered brush. I want the soft edges, but what I don't want is the strange gray pixelation. I don't remember this happening before, but I could be mistaken.

I checked and I do have OpenGL turned on.

The red arrows were added later, so they're not actually on a transparent layer, which is why they look normal.

Oh, and Dezigns Unlimited, I apologize for thinking that you were making fun of me. It is quite annoying that it thinks that I'm misspelling pixelation :)

It would seem that there might be some confusion as to what I am wanting. I am aware that the edges are feathered, and I'm not wanting them to be hard.
What I would like is for them to smoothly blend into the background, like they do on the white. Instead, it's creating this blotchy spot in the middle, and not creating a nice smooth gradient.

So, I do want it to be feathered, and don't want it hard edged. But instead of being smooth, it's jagged and pixelated.

Thanks again guys for the help. And I apologize for not being clear enough in my posts.

lets see your brush setting, someone said already "looks like setting is set to scatter"

Well, I just checked it on my Mackbook Pro, and on a friend's PC, and the effect was the same. I guess I just never noticed it before.

And iDad, I don't have scatter turned on, so I know that wouldn't have effected it.

I'm including a .PSD so that everyone can see the strange effect. Just use a black soft brush, and paint around the blob and watch as it does strange things.
(if it doesn't do strange things, then something really is wrong)

Thanks for all your help guys. And sorry for making you guys try to help me, when it appears as if nothing was technically wrong.

I'm going to backup a little with what I said.
I said I was getting the same results but I'm not.
I opened your PSD added a layer and painted it the the brush you're using

My results aren't as smooth as Kevin's but much better than yours.
Even I select scatter and crank up the settings.

Are you using a pen and tablet or a mouse?
If it's a pen try using the mouse instead.

I'm using the trackpad on my laptop right now. But as I said, it seems to do the same thing on two other computers, including a mac (but seems to be less extreme on the mac), so I know it's not just my computer, which actually kind of sucks, since it means that it's always been that way, and I just never noticed it :|

Hmm, something is certainly funky, im beginning to think it's something in your hardware. The fact that you uninstalled and completely removed all traces of Photoshop even the temporary stored files suggest it may be a hardware issue. The only problem i have with that is, it should do it on other colors, not just black.

I downloaded your psd "horror" (got a kick out of that) and it looks great displayed on both of my monitors..

try adding a slight blur to it does it help?

I tried it and it didn't do much, just made the pixels larger.

The funny thing is, when I save out the image, it looks normal. It's only in Photoshop that it looks all pixelated

Thanks again, I know this must be quite frustrating.

I use a PC and Windows so i cant really say what to do, did you ever fill out the support template?

I use a PC and a mac (long story), and I first noticed this strange phenomenon on the PC.

#1 What operating system are you using? Windows 7
#2 What type of Graphics Card do you have? Nvidia GeForce 8600M GS
#3 What version of Photoshop are you running? CS5 (v12.0)
#4 How much RAM do you have?
3GB

Oh, that was weird. As I said yesterday, I was using a friends computer to test and see if the strange pixelation happened on his computer (which it did). I must have unintentionally done something while posting, because I didn't want to post a picture, oops...

As for the OpenGL, I have the "enable OpenGL drawing" turned on/checked.

It must be my graphics card then, i don't get any pixelation what so ever around the edges. Have you tried to uncheck OpenGL to see what the results are?

I just tried unchecking OpenGL, and it (sadly) didn't appear to have done anything. I also set it to "basic" and "advanced" mode, in the advanced settings. Nothing seemed to change :(

Im not sure what to tell you at this point, i know buying a new graphics may not be an option but it's certainly something i would look into.. I don't get that at all when i open your project file...

Okay, thanks for all the help. I guess it's just one of those weird things that I'll just deal with. At least now I have even more reason to splurge on a Mac Pro, maybe that will cure me of Pixelitis...

Again, thanks for all the help. And thanks to everyone else who helped as well.
