anyone want to help with my birthday picture?

I did this as a practice to try to get my skills up a little more but the next one I do will be of me and my two friends.

Believe it or not, I'm very frustrated as I messed up on several things and shouldn't have spent as long as I did working on this.. (2 hours)

Question #1 when I'm creating layers, I'll cut off a portion from one picture for example the mustache and paste it on the avatar face and around the mustache is a white line. Now, what I do to get the mustache is zoom in to the picture i'm getting it from, with the polygonal lasso tool I'll outline it very precisely, and copy and paste it on the photo I'm working on, and there is a white line that I have to spend good time on clearing up, and I do that by using the eye dropper tool to get the color thats right next to it and with the paint brush i'll paint it a little, and use the blur tool to blend it in. Not sure if thats the best way but the only way I know how..

Question #2 which would probably answer question 1, are there tutorials I can watch anywhere that would teach me how to use photoshop, step by step, vs. me figuring it out via trial and error by doing it the long and hard way? I didn't search, I never really thought I'd want to better my photoshop skills but I don't know, this post has made photoshop pretty interesting and now i'm a bit curious. As long as it's quick to the point, lol I have 18 units of school work and a job so if there is a effective and efficient tutorial out there, please let me know. oh free too! lolol i'm very much a starving student.

PS Tutorials is very broad term... They're every where..... even here in the forum home page.... Freelance Photoshop Jobs ? Photo Editing ? Stock Photos ? Photoshop Help

For a start... just download whatever you feel interests you....

For your first question..... I don't know how much white there is but you can try a couple of things...

1. In MENU>LAYER>MATTING> either DEFRINGE or REMOVE WHITE MATTE.

2. CTRL+click image layer icon to select the moustache (or any image on the layer) . GOTO MENU>SELECT>MODIFY>CONTRACT... in the popup menu , set it at 1 or 2 pixels , you may have to experiment (just hit undo ). CTRL+INVERSE to invert the selection and hit delete to delete the excess white.

oh wow, that worked. lol shit I had 11 layers and that would've saved me about an hour of touch-up work. Now I want to learn Photoshop for justice of my mismanaged time, and a little bit of vengance for Maximus, Belial, idad, Terry Cyclops, haha and you too DV8.

Lol jk you guys made this fun. Now, its a matter of setting a good agenda that will allow me to learn Photoshop quickly and efficiently..
