When I activate the brush tool, say size 10, I am getting activation of a size smaller than a 10 - say an 8 or so? How do I get the brush to the size that I am requesting?

The screen shows the outline of a size 10, but only a smaller part of the brush is activated.
Thanks, Martha

I think this is the problem, as you maybe able to see in the image, the brush is showing an out line like you would expect to see, but when you click to get the colour on the canvase, he is only getting a samler brush stamp.

Please try this,

Photoshop Tips - Reset Photoshop Preferences

It may help, but it will delete any preferences you may have set in Photoshop, as you haven't told us what you may have tried to sort the problem out before comeing here, I offer this to try and help :)

I did as you suggested and deleted the preferences. No change - brush and pencil acting as before. ????

Your instruction is the only think that I have tried.

your brush is feathered sounds to me

Have you tried going to brushes and selectin reset brushs?

I did reset the brushes - no change.
I have no idea what "feathered" is.

I appreciate all of your help/ suggestions. I am willing to try any suggestions. Thanks.

Picture 2.jpgPicture 3.jpgThis appears to be alot of trouble. I have never had to reload AdobePhotoshop, but am wondering it that is the answer. I thank you for your help. I can usually figure out problems on my own but this one has me puzzled.

Well to tell the truth, it has me puzzled as well, I'm on line looking now for an answer for you, but I'm not sure I will fined one.

looking at your first picture the brush you have selected is semi transparent on the edges at least blowing up that low res shot I see .your second is a different brush all together. I suggest going into your Preset Manager and looking for the appropriate brush for your needs.

These were screen shots from 2 different projects. I have been choosing brush styles from the preset manager.

At first I did not think this was going to be a big problem because I was using small brushes and could allow for the difference as long as I used the zoom tool. However, this morning I have been working with LARGER brushes to alter backgrounds and the difference in the outline and the painted spot is more distortion and harder to judge the distance.

If I reload Photoshop the problem should be solved???? However, I would like to know what has made the brush not act correct so if it happens again that I will know what to do.

I am not anywhere proficient in Photoshop like you on this site are proficient (I have seen your web page and several of the other members web site - WOW - nice), however I have used Photoshop for over 10 years on almost a daily basis and I can do the things that I need to do. This is the first problem that has really stumped me and is making me think of reloading the Photoshop program.

I REALLY appreciate your time and your assistance.
Martha

I do not know your version or OSX but memory issues create some pretty strange out comes, could it be a memory problem your having? in pref there is away to increase or decrease usage of what you need, .look into that .just a suggestion.
