Adding Text To Certain Frames For A Gif

Hi.

I am using ImageReady 7.0 to make an animated gif.

I am trying to make an animated gif using a lot of frames. I want to put a line of text on a certain amount of frames then add a different line on a different set of frames.

what I do is, get all the frames together, resize it then I open the animation window and make it animated. I choose the frame I want the text on and I write what I want. However instead of being on the frame I want it to be on its on every frame.

I actually found this site because I googled how to do this and I found a thread but when I used the directions that a user gave to the post it still didn't work for me.

here is what they told the other person:
- Add the text
- Click on the eye in front of the layer to hide the text in all frames (you might have to select all frames first)
- Ctrl + click and/or shift + click to select the frames that need the text
- Click on the eye in front of the text layer again to show only the text in those selected frames

I tried doing this but it still put the text in every frame. Perhaps I am doing something wrong but if someone could maybe do a picture tutorial or give me a bit more details I would appreciate it greatly.

When you write your text rasterize it and merge it to that layer or frame

You can see your layers in layer palette, click on the frame/layer that you want to put text on type your text it'll be above that frame then merge those two frames together

This is a sample gif. it has 5 frames. I have put them together and then clicked make frames from layers in the animation window. So now you can see the 5 seperate frames in the animation window.

Now I have selected Frame 3 and put in some text. I'm not sure if you can see it or not but it still puts the text on every frame.

Where is your layer palettewindow? it should be to the right

Put the text about the frame or layers that you want to merge only

After you complete your text and position it where you want it over the image below it, right-click the image/text in the pallet window
layer "merge down"

OK, let me take a shot at this........ (reminder, this is just one way to do this)

I created my frames one by one in layers.
Here's the layers pallet. There are two text layers, two star layers, and a BG.

Notice that I only have the BG layer and the first star layer turned on.

My next step is to open my timeline and click create frame animation.
I get one frame that consists of my BG and the first star.

Next I'm going to click the "add frame" icon at the bottom of the timeline window.
In my layers pallet, I will turn on the first text layer.

Again I will add a new frame.
This time I will click off the first star layer.
Click off the first text layer.

Click on the second star layer.

Again, add a new frame....
Click on the second text layer.

All that's left to do is adjust the timing and animate!

Down load this GIF and open it in Photoshop and you can see what I did.

Good luck.

Okay say I want to put the same bit of text on more than one frame how do I do that?
on the sample gif... I click on frame 3 and write my text then say I want it on frame 4 and 5? what do I do?
I tried putting the text on frame 5 but the text doesn't show up. It will show on on any frame before 3 but not after.

I'm not sure what the little paintbrush is by the Frame 3 (I circled it in red).

Just leave that text layer selected/highlighted/turned on until you want it off. The text will be propagated to the next, and then the next, and so on.

edit: I see no text layer in your posted example.

I don't know about Imageready, but the principle is the same.

I'm sorry IamSam I just don't understand what you're trying to tell me.
I swear it shouldn't be this hard LOL I feel extremely stupid that I can't understand what people are telling me and how I should be able to do this.

the gif I am trying to make is going to have 100 frames and a few lines of text scattered through that.

OK, start a completely new project! Let's set the one your doing aside for a second.

In this new project create one shape layer and two text layers.

When you have these, turn on the shape layer only (click the eye)

Let me know when your ready an post a screenshot please.
