Adding an image onto a block of flats.


I really like Sam's brighter version, but, like Clare, I also like to see the texture.

Here's a really quick way to get more or less the best of both worlds without going back or a lot of other hassle:

Grab an approximation of the texture in the original by running it through a high pass filter with a radius of a pixel or two.

We then put that layer on top of Sam's brighter version and set the blending mode to "overlay". Obviously, we don't need to restore texture anywhere except the wall that was changed, so mask everything else out.

A few tweaks as to the opacity and to have the texture only darken, not lighten Sam's any further, and we're done.

In the attached, I intentionally exaggerated the effect to make it obvious. I would be much more cautious if this was "for real". If you want that wall even brighter after being texturized, it's easy enough to do, but I kinda like it just a bit darker than Sam's, but brighter than the original.
