Sorry for the delay getting back on this ...been a busy few days at work. I just had a very quick crack at this with the suggested brush settings + pen pressure, and this is the result:
I added a bunch of hair in the fringe area, and some along the back of the mane. I think it still needs some refinement, but when I asked my girlfriend to spot the "fake" areas, she got them all wrong ... so I guess that's a relatively positive indicator.
