    That's true. What ever works, man... Actually I finished my work in Illustrator by using pathfinder tool. But it's nice to know how to do this in Photoshop where I usually do all my prework if the end product is vector based.

    Well, that depends. :) If you have a let say gradient background (w filtered layers) which looks compressed in 8 bit mode, when you switch it to 16 bit mode it becomes smoother.     First one is easy if you just want use bw photo. Just use screen or multiply filter (in layers) depending on do you want to bring only whites or blacks on front. Second one you can basically do the same but then color over it by using overlay or color burn etc. depending what kinda effect...

    Resizing quality and 8/16 bit.

    Best way to see difference is use gray color and gradient tool. Change between 8 and 16 bit. You can see how much smoother 16 bit is. Notice that in 16 bit mode there is fewer options in filters. I usually change to 16 bit after everything is 99,9 % ready.

    Put new one over the older one, put say like a 60% opacity to new one so you can thru, use transform to put new one in same scale and tilt as an older one, use layer mask to cutout overlapping edges, put 100% opacity, finalize and you should be done.
