I was wondering if it would be possible to place a silhouette on the bottom layer and have it appear to have the same texture as the image I place it behind? I would have several layers of the same image on top of the bottom layer but only one of them open to show the silhouette and if I wanted to use one of the other layers instead, the silhouette would appear to have the same texture of that image.. would all this be possible?:banghead:
 
Hi Robert, it would be much easier if you uploaded some samples of "the silhouette" and the layer you would like to match the texture with.

Use the "insert image" icon in the reply window.
 
...or, just an example of the final look you want to achieve with one of the many images / layers turned on.

OK, here's what the final image should look like with the appropriate layers visible.. 6.jpg

I'm trying to find a way to create this image a using a few different leaves as the layers and a single silhouette image to place behind the visible leaf layer so that it appears to have the same texture as the leaf.

By the way, thank you for responding and I look forward to your replies.
 
If I understand you, and as a visual artist, I'm still having trouble following your writing . . . but I'll try, and others with better reading skills will doubtless chime in!

!st - The images are contained within the leaf shape by creating a clipping layer, (we can elaborate if you need) or done by selecting the leaf shape and masking other layers.

2nd - There is probably a copy made of the original leaf layer and this is moved to the top of the layer pile. (Maybe more than one copy for other layer blend mode effects.) The other image is of placed in between. There are hue changes made to the leaf. Maybe the color is deepened and reddened in the original or not.

3rd - On the top layer, a deep sepia tone is applied. (several ways to do this, such as photo filter or hue/sat layer adjustments) Without trying it myself, I would guess that top layer is set to multiply or hard light blend. That would allow the top layer, the leaf, to apply its texture to the layer below. Blend-if sliders might alternatively be used, but I would have to try that out as that method is not my forte.

OK, time for other explanations!

PS: I'll try to create something like your example and see if my suggestions have any integrity :mrgreen:
 
I made this. The steps were a bit different and involved more layer masks and oval selections using the marquee and gradient tools.Is this at all what you have in mind?

Problem I'm having with this is creating the grey in the horse and carriage BG without it picking up the color below. OK, PS Gurus. We need some more technical help here.

Clare, did you try using Threshold on the horse and buggy first? Try that and then desat the leaf, and add in the sepia overlay.

Just a guess.
 
Here's a simple silhouette I created..horse drawn carriage 20_full.jpg

given the same rules, how would I go about making it look like the first image using this leaf..maple leaf22 (1).jpg?

I'm not very Photoshop savvy. All I know how to do in this program is paint :banghead:

Instead of trying to start from scratch and either draw or use "find edges" to get prominent leaf veins, I would probably find some simplified B&W images of leaf veins and put that image on a layer on top of the image of interest and use an appropriate blending mode, opacity, etc..

Yeah, that's what I was using.......still don't think it's working that well.

Still playing with the technique a little...........

Although I know you jest, I think as long as a piece of work centres on the beauty of the human form, rather than sexualizing the subject, the piece has more artistic merit than anything else. With perversions being normalised as the internet makes both so easily accessible, as Robin Thicke once sang, the lines between porn and art can be very blurred. Always a subject that causes debate.

(No pun intended.)
