Hi all

Just posting this work in progress for critique, not finished just yet, so any comments will be most welcome. I think the foreground is to dark in comparison to the sky so will work on that!
Needs a bit of work so hoping for some good advise.
Thanks in advance as always

Cheers gedstar :)

I like this one! I'm a fan of the floating earth and structure thing, even before Avatar.

Even though I think this is supposed to be night time, I will add my usual broken record statement.........it's a bit too dark. Getting the lighting right in this one might be a challenge! The floaters seem to be lit from the front and the left, while the fore and mid-ground is lit from the back and above right.

Can't wait to see the progress on this one!

Thanks IamSam

I done the floating rocks with the paint brush tool and rock textures and as you rightly said I got the lighting wrong, thanks for pointing that out! I do agree that the foreground is too dark and will adjust same. What I'm hoping to do is have some light shining from the moon onto the foreground.
If you or anybody has any pointers in that respect I would appreciate any help. Still learning but improving everyday :)

Thanks again for you comment

Your updated image looks great gedstar, and it doesn't look too dark on my calibrated NEC Monitor.
Just one thing...the floaters look a bit too sharp, especially on the bottom side. Maybe they should look more like air roots?

I like both versions, except now I think the second is too bright and doesn't give me night time. The moon is surreal if it's day. What I would do is find a happy medium. You are right about the foreground. Make a fuzzy selection of the foremost vegetation and use an adjustment to lighten it. Worth a try. I agree with chris on the sharpness issue, and I agree with Sam on the floating islands. Fun concept. I don't agree on the dark, but that's cause I like dark, lol.

The white line haze on the orizon looks as though something has been rubbed out and the white bg is showing through, Think the floating island on the right should be a little smaller in perspective to the castle size and make it look a little more distant than the one on the left.

Not so sure about the forground and background is right type of imagary for the 2 x floating islands but thats just my personal preferance, i would have made them a little bit more rocky with less foalage.

Color balance on the overall image, but i still like what you have done, nice work.

In looking at the second image again, I can see that the color profile or balance for the islands, particularly the foreground one, is off from the rest of the image. It's not as noticeable in the night shot. Inky's comment on the craggy versus lush ground made me look! The landscape on the foremost island is slightly more barren, but if the colors were corrected/matched that wouldn't stand out so much. Also, the bird of prey is awfully large for that scale. I would definitely blur out the further back island some. Overall though, the composition is well done and the exercise looks like it was good for you.

I would suggest making some changes to improve it and posting it again, but not by editing the first post or we won't get notifications that there is an addition!

Hi ibclare

Thanks for your comments, will take them on board, the bird of pray was meant to be a dragon hence the size
Will have to find a dragon now :)

Cheers
