Wonky files, all of a sudden...

Out of the blue, when I work on a jpeg. image file in my Photoshop CS4, and then save it to my picture files on my computer, when I go to reopen it in Photoshop I get the message that the file type is not recognized; also can't open the image in Windows. What gives?

That happens sometimes during saving I accidentally delete the ( . ) when adding text, check that it is there. Just a thought (I could be way off).

Yes, that's what it was about, it seems. Never before have I had to manually type in the file type at the end of the file name box; it automatically filled in from the file choice showing in the box below it. But now apparently I do.
