Wings

that would make a really good challenge, a piece based on angels.

The only thing I could offer would be to draw the shape with the pen tool and then play with the air brush. Perhaps find a photo of swans in flight and base it of that, to get idea of the texture and how light falls. Ive been wanting to have a go at something like that myself for ages.

Depends on the style of image you want really.

my idea is to try and make a picture of a winged st. michael with a sword pointing out toward the user, but u need to learn how to make some good wings 1st and the sword isnt a problem considering its my specialty.

as an add: look carefully at bird's wings.
What are they used for?
How is that purpose achieved?
How are they constructed?
Where are they fixed?

etc

The whole idea of angels having these wings is rediculous (from a scientific point of view) as birds, whose arms are wings, have very developed pectoralis muscles (the white meat from chicken etc) and an extra side on the breastbone to adhere the fibres on. If angels needed wings to fly, and they would be attached like that on the scapula, then, believe me, they would need another muscular system at the sides of the ribcage because, with an overdeveloped back, they would have to fly upside down (the muscles are needed to take the body up when they are contracted.

etc etc.

But: it is beautiful to see superhuman boyz and grrlz with wings. And as Keats wrote: if it isn't beautiful, it probably isn't true. [:I

thanks Hanarky thats exactly what I was looking for :righton:,
As much as it is scientificly erelivant, this is more of a spiritual piece that I am going for. Hence the consept of angel, devine beings.

Glad, that I could help :D

I am sure, your wing will get much better than mine. I tried this tut myself some time ago. But you see, it can be done.

Hehe, and looking from an scientific point of view, lol angels don't exist, so it doesn't matter, how it looks when they fly. But in imagination they are nice to look at.
