Will Photoshop Elements 2022 Open Old Photoshop 2.0 files?

My wife bought Photoshop 2.0, student edition, about 20 years ago, when she was learning photography, and in the process, used it to touch up dozens of our old family photos. It took her hundreds of hours.

However, now, when she tries to open those pictures, she can't because she says that her program will no longer works. It appears that Adobe has now found a way to stop old customers from opening their program, even though they have paid for them, and now require her to pay a monthly subscription. She is 75 years old and just wants to be able work on her old photos, not make tons of money.

Will Photoshop Elements 2022 open her old photos, and will she be able to touch them up? I realize that not all of the old PS 2.0 functions are available in Elements 2022, but how do they compare? Does anyone know the differences in capabilities between PS 2.0 and Elements 2022?? With PS 2.0 being old and Elements 2022 being new, maybe she would be able to do about as much with the new Elements 2022 as she could do with the old PS 2.0.

Furthermore, if she now loads the old PS2.0 onto her new computer, is Photoshop going to detect that and coerce her into buying a subscription or can she just continue to use her old PS 2.0 forevermore?

Are we really talking about Photoshop 2.0 (for a Mac without layer support from the 1991) or Photoshop CS2 (available for Mac & Win)?

Normally you can install stanadalone and cloud versions in parallel...
But since the old version no longer works according to their own statements, this question does not arise at all.
There are also trial versions for testing the range of functions...

To my knowledge, there are no problems opening older files in newer Photoshop (Elements) versions either.

In addition to Photoshop, there is now enough other software that is equal to Photoshop or even superior in certain areas.

hi, if you have Photoshop PSD files, you can drag & drop them onto iPhoto or apple Photos and those programs will open them as single layer jpegs.
