Why Don't I Have Enough Memory, All Of A Sudden?

This is by far the most resourceful site I've ever come across on the net and on that note I was wondering whether someone on these boards could tell me why my computer demands that I shut pscs5 down every time I use the program of late because it tells me that my laptop is low on memory. Today is the first time that I've experienced this and am wondering what could it be attributed to? My niece told me that she might have shut it down while it was still downloading updates, she unplugged it even though it told her not to before it shut down. I have never experienced this problem before and it is very frustrating because I can't spent more than 15 minutes using the program before windows tells me to shut the program down because I am low on memory. Here are my specs and still I cannot understand why this is happening: I'm running on 2 Gigs of ram, AMD Sempron M100 2.00GHz and a 64 bit Windows 7 Operating System. Please help, as I can't do much.:banghead:

Hi MightyZeus

first thing first

1- Try updating your PS

2- Update WIN if necesary

3- try to identifying a individual process that could be causing the problem or is just random circumstances

3- Go to EDIT>PREFERENCES>GENERAL_ Performance_Memory Usage, try setting a smaller range of memory for PS to use, sadly this will slow down you PS performance a bit

4- try resseting your PS CS5 preferences file, when PS starts hit CRTL+ALT+SHIFT and it will ask you if you want to reset your preferences file, just hit OK.

Hope this helps

if it is the error where you get windows memory resources are low please try closing down apllications x=error :000011121142 (for example) usually means you have corrupted windows files in that case just put in your windows disk and repair computer could also be a spyware infection run task manager and see what is using all your memory/ cpu will give you a percentage next to each app if there is something there that you do not recognise it google it if you have the crss virus you will have 2 instances of crss but 1 will be spelt differently my first step would be to download something like spybot search and destroy a freeware program that fixes spyware. if that is still not fixed run a full virus scan. uninstall any unneccessary programs and toolbars. if it is just photoshop that is causing problems then you have a corrupt start up exe you may need to do a repair. if all else fails reboot windows to last known working condition or system restore. there is a rare virus going around which I do not think is your case that changes all windows applications compatability mode to windows 95 so tricks your program into thinking it is being run on windows 95 so will not run so check the compatability mode.

Thank you both for the replies. very helpful. Hoogleman, you're a genius, that's the exact message that I'm getting and I will download the spybot and any other spyware program that could possibly spot any form of viruses or any other malicious threats that might be on the lurk in my computer.
