Hi,

I am working in CS6... I am trying to replace the color of a flat simple gold logo to white. However, every time I attempt to replace the color with White, it shows up as a gray instead. Not sure what's going on, it seems like I've checked all my color settings, and if I try to replace with any other color it works just fine... its only with the WHITE that I'm having trouble making the change. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

We need to know what method, tools you have used to be able to say where the problem lies. If you hover your cusor over the tool, it will show you it's name. Also, is the logo shaded at all, or is it solid colours?

I'm trying to work with the color replacement brush tool. Its a simple flat colored logo, no shading. Just want gold to be replaced with white and it keeps showing up as white. I've done this in the past and have never had this problem ????

Hi Jessie, you can't use white or black with the color replacement tool.

The Color Replacement Tool is NOT the best choice for color replacement anyway. There are many ways to do this.......try SELECT > COLOR RANGE > pick the color to be changed and hit OK, hit D on the keyboard, and then cmd/cntrl + delete to replace with white.

Your BG is white............are you removing the object? There are easier ways to do this as well.

HI,

Thank you for the helpful advice.... this MOSTLY worked... but I guess the logo wasn't originally flat like I thought.... After I followed the steps you gave me, I was still left with speckles of gold... this is what I have so far. Just need a quick way to make the whole thing white. Thanks again for your help.

Just to point the obvious out, why not get the font and replace the text.
I would have picked the white background when making the selection, then inverted the selection result. new text will always look better though.

There are easier ways obviously not having your file I cant show you proper resolution and if this is the only option you have to extract the stuff without original artwork this is how I would do it.

Unlock your background layer and create a new empty layer below it

Rightclick the image layer and select blending options at the bottom of the pop up window you will have a blend if move the right slider inwards and the white will go

white 1.PNG

Highlight bothe the layers in the layer pallet and right click and select merge layers.

Then create a new layer and fill it with white using the paintbucket tool.

Right click that layer in the layer pallet and select create clipping mask.

I have put a black layer underneath so you can see what it comes up like.

I hope your image is better resolution than the pic you have displayed for better results.

Just for a note.........my first choice would be to use the Pen Tool and trace the logo. (not the text)

Repeat the process with the remaining color.

These are the only two I could find............very low res.

Both have green logos.

Hoogle, great idea! It also works on individual components of the image if you place a selection box (Rectangular Marquis Tool) around the object whose color you want to change!

I learned something!
