What is wrong about TEACHING?

All work and no play makes for dull website, nothing is wrong with teaching, we all learn in different ways ,some here prefer to work on an image to teach themselves as they go along. I see no problem with it, what's the big deal some school kid wanting some pictures edited? It doesn't look like a commercial moneymaking venture to me. No harm done. Teaching is a great thing I respect teachers immensely. Not everybody is into photo manipulation, photo editing or photography. Nothing wrong with helping people out that are not skilled. What bugs me is when somebody's out there looking for a logo or album cover something that's going to be making them money in the future...... If it weren't for teachers the world would be in trouble. Many threads have suggestions as to how too do things, many people take those suggestions. It's a tough call to tell if the posted request is for monetary reasons But like I said all work and no play makes for a dull website. Now, go help the kid out!:bustagut:

Going to have to agree with JohnD here. There are too many requests for people here to just do things on demand. Sure, if you can't get access to a copy of PS (for financial or others reasons) I guess thats fair enough, but with the thousands of free tutorials out there, anyone who knows how to use Google can find what they are after.

Unless it is a really difficult technique like turning skin metallic (many very subtle curves adjustments layers for this), then I think people should show more initiative and look it up instead of being lazy and just asking someone else to do it all for them.

PS is a DEEP program. Becoming familiar with it is a long process which involves a lot of patience and determination.

People have lives, and aren't here to serve those with a CBF attitude toward learning. I like showing people tips, but only if they want to learn, and aren't making the request to have it all done for them without bettering their PS knowledge. Nobody ever gets anywhere in life by being too lazy to participate in their own improvement.

In reply to all in this thread really, sadly the culture of 'i want it now' exists at all levels in life especially with the younger community (this applies to anything really).
Modern life as dictated for the last few years especially with the rise of super fast hand held devices/phones etc that the kids especially don't want to learn they just want.
Then we have the 'grabbers' who want something via a veiled 'help' request that are really leechers and here to grab like the kids for freebies.
No one is expected here at PhotoshopGurus to reply or do anything.
It is a kick in the stomach when we get these requests and it is obvious to anyone that it's a freebie or someone just out for the quick fix, but like i said this is life.
What to do about it then?
Ignore such requests is one approach, go all in and reply hoping that 'others' who are genuine to the shop cause will learn from it, or just throw the towel and take up flower arranging (nothing against flower arrangers).

Completely agree, Paul. I'm half way between Gen X and Gen Y (32), and I see the lack of perseverance getting worse as time goes by. Its not a matter of "In my day..." type thinking, people ARE wanting more in return for less effort. Its not an attractive quality.

The title of this thread is: "What is wrong about TEACHING?".

This is not about the OP or his request at all guys.

This is about responses to such requests and the test that I did with my son to show that just a few words can actually do wonders.

I have nothing against the OP, I have nothing against his request and I have nothing against people posting their own attempts either to have some fun.

I would just like to encourage more teaching and not just spoon feeding. My 11 year got the results that the OP requested in less than 3 minutes with no experience at all. On top of that, he loved doing it and he's happy knowing that he can now do something similar without the help of others and all because I was willing to spend maybe 3 seconds of my time by saying only 14 words:

"Randomly click on some of the stuff in image / adjustments or filter / filter gallery"

I think the issue is people who DON'T want to learn, but simply have it all done for them. They aren't interested in discovering for themselves with a few prompting tips. Its those types who I ignore because they are a waste of time, and will just come back wanting more free work, while failing to have improved their ability to do it themselves in the future. In such cases, either ignoring them or spoon feeding them are the only two options because they have no will to investigate PS on their own, even after being given tips.

About this thread: http://www.photoshopgurus.com/forum...-can-someone-photoshop-these-pictures-me.html

Why spoon feeding people instead of making suggestions like:

"Randomly click on some of the stuff in image / adjustments or filter / filter gallery, no skills required and shows us your progress".

At some point, it falls on the members whether to assist via tutorial (on or off site) , tips (like you suggested) or simply do the edit for the OP.

Teaching is a great thing. But I seriously doubt if most of the visitors coming here actually have Photoshop in their computer or has even the slightest hint to learn the application. You may have noticed that most of them may say - "I have PS but ... (continue with personal excuse) . And that's just it - some excuse just so they don't do it themselves and get a properly manipulated edit.

This ploy may have came about because of our stringent policy of preferring to walk the OP through the PS intricacies rather than doing the edit freely like other sites (1 or 2 of them around).

But as one may have noticed in some threads, tutorial assistance or suggestions are readily available or given to new members who display the kind of interest we look for. I guess this compensates and balances out things around here.

For as long as the request isn't an obvious (or veiled) attempt to get a free image for commercial or mischievous use, then perhaps its OK to spoon-feed. But like I said - it's up to what direction to approach the issue based on hunch or intuition made by YOU - the member. I'll throw in member's MOOD for extra good measure........

You watermark any image you do here...if you think the OP is trying a fast one....Then if they have PS, they might ask how. I learn on EVERY image
